(But first…a note on web conferencing tools)

Today we’re using iLinc (www.ilink.com)•Web conferencing tools allow you to do what we’re doing today, that is, they can be used as part of large conferences.•Such tools can also be used in much smaller meetings, including meetings with staff, contractors, & clients.•Considering costs associated with transportation, lodging, and other travel-related expenses (not to mention the carbon footprint!) it’s no wonder the web conferencing market has see such rapid growth and development.

RKAll About the TA&D Network

•OSEP receives Part D Discretionary money from the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) to fund technical assistance and dissemination centers loosely referred to as the Technical Assistance and Dissemination Network (TA&D).

•This group of 40-50 centers works collaboratively to coordinate their efforts to ensure states receive the most appropriate assistance possible without duplication of efforts, effectively and efficiently leveraging OSEP’s limited resources. These centers are each competitively awarded, most in five year cycles.

RKAll About the TA&D Network (cont.)

There are several types of centers funded by OSEP- specialty or topical centers, regional centers or both. Specialty or topical centers are national centers generally funded to address one topic or a group of related topics:

•National Drop Out Prevention Center•National Center on Response to Intervention (RTI)

Regional centers like the serve a particular region of the country on a wide variety of topic areas:

•Regional Resource Center Program•Regional Parent Technical Assistance Centers

There are also four regional centers who work on a particular set of topics around postsecondary opportunities for students who are deaf or hard of hearing:

•PEPNet Northeast, Midwest, South and West

2. OVERVIEW OF TACC

TACC OVERVIEW

TACC OVERVIEW

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE COORDINATION CENTER (TACC)

TACC assists OSEP in supporting ongoing communication, collaboration, and coordination among the centers in the OSEP-funded TA&D Network, and between these centers and other relevant federally-funded TA&D centers, national professional organizations, and a broad spectrum of stakeholders. Their activities include :•The Matrix•Discretionary Database•TACommunities•SPP/APR Calendar•IDEA.gov•tadnet.ning.com

TACC OVERVIEW

The “MATRIX”

•The Matrix is an extensive database of activities under taken by OSEP’s TA&D projects and the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education’s (OESE) Comprehensive Centers. Information is entered about activities of the projects and centers in the Matrix, and this database of activities allows states, stakeholders, projects, centers, and others to view the work happening in states and jurisdictions across the U.S.

•This database provides one location for OSEP, OESE, states, projects, centers, and others to get the latest information on services available and delivered to states, locals and other recipients.

TACC OVERVIEW

Discretionary Database

OSEP is dedicated to improving results for infants, toddlers, children and youth with disabilities ages birth through 21. To this end, OSEP provides leadership and financial support to assist states and local districts, including funding approximately 1,000 grants and contracts. If you'd like to know what grants and contracts OSEP has funded as part of its initiatives to improve results for children with disabilities, search the discretionary database. This database offers complete listings of OSEP's grants and contracts through the SEARCH feature and in print (as PDF files). http://old.nichcy.org/directories/

TACC OVERVIEW

TACommunities

16

In 2003, OSEP began a new initiative, offering a “platform” www.tacommunities.org, utilizing a CoP strategy for SEA and LEA agency members and other key stakeholders facing similar program improvement challenges to share their expertise, issues and solutions that would allow them to work on developing better outcomes for children and youth with disabilities and their families.

TACC OVERVIEW

Why OSEP Initiated TACommunities

17

• To bridge knowledge – practice gap

• To provide TA to all who desire and/or need it

• To move promising practices beyond pockets of excellence

TACC OVERVIEW

Goals of TACommunities

18

•Increase use of high quality research-based information and effective policies and practices;•Identify solutions to key issues and challenges;•Enhance shared learning;•Prevent duplication of effort;•Facilitate connections and collaboration;•Develop new service system capacities; and•Implement IDEA for better outcomes for students with disabilities.

TACC OVERVIEW

SPP/APR Calendar

•This tool is used to assist States with the preparation and timely completion of the State Performance Plan (SPP) and Annual Performance Report (APR).•Resources and events are posted on the SPP/APR Calendar on an ongoing basis to ensure access to the most current information.http://spp-apr-calendar.rrfcnetwork.org/

TACC OVERVIEW

Building the Legacy: IDEA 2004

IDEA.ed.gov was created to provide a "one-stop shop" for resources related to IDEA and its implementing regulations, released on August 3, 2006. It is a "living" website changing and growing as resources and information become available.

The site provides searchable versions of IDEA and the regulations, access to cross-referenced content from other laws (e.g., the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), etc.), video clips on selected topics, topic briefs on selected regulations, links to OSEP's TA&D Network and a Q&A Corner where you can submit questions, and a variety of other information sources. http://idea.ed.gov/

TACC OVERVIEW

tadnet.ning.com

http://tadnet.ning.com/ - a new social networking site designed to support and strengthen communication and information exchange across the TA&D network and beyond.

•In this community space individuals from across the TA&D Network can easily connect with others, participate in discussions, and create or join targeted special interests groups. In our efforts to provide increased flexibility in creating group work space this is one option for centers to use.• This new space leverages the Ning social networking platform. What is Ning? Ning is the second fastest-growing social networking platform (right behind Twitter) and now hosts more than 1,000,000 customized social networks. • How might you use this space? Feel free to go in, look around, and get familiar with the site - it is yours to use to exchange information with other centers, your clients, plus you can establish groups or share resources - there are many possibilities.
