What it is. . .

• It is using game-thinking and game mechanics in non-game

contexts in order to engage users and solve problems 

• Gamification is used in applications and processes to improve user

engagement, ROI, data quality, timeliness, and learning

Designing a game

Give levels & powers based on players XP

Progress bar

Generally shows how much the user has progressed; more importantly how much more they need to progress to get to the next level

Level Ups with fancy designations!

Give designated names to level ups which signify moving up a ladder

Achievement "badges"

Give achievement badges related to tasks you want them to perform;usually repeatedly

Challenges between users

Leader boards

Virtual currency

Elements - in all

Points: tracking, feedback

Badges: goals, rewards

• Calculate current BMI; say 22 (A)

• Calculate BMI after 1 week; say 22.3 (B)

• Score = (A – B) x 10, hence .3 x 10 = 3 points

– There are no negative points
