•Maximize your personal contact

•This is Sales -- look good and always be enthusiastic and optimistic

The Presentation

•Start with Who, What, and Why

•Show photos, play audio, and show videos

•Explain the benefits of The Corps -- performing as a team at the highest possible level

Ask Them To Help You

•Ask them politely “Will you help me be a part of The Cavaliers?”

•You are responsible for dues of ~$2500

•Use your judgment

•Ask for a specific amount, or a range, then adjust as they react

•Ask for a specific follow-up date if needed

Tax Implications

Explain the tax implications

•Sponsoring a member is NOT tax-deductible. These donations go straight to your dues.

•An Ad in the AdBook is deductible as a business expense. These donations go straight to your dues.

•Donating to the Financial Assistance fund IS tax-deductible. This money goes to the corps and the corps selects the members who receive awards. 11

Sell Ads in The Ad Book

•Use online resources to find potential advertisers

•Ask businesses that you patronize

•Look for businesses that are not location-specific

•Point out the deductibility advantages

Raffle Tickets

•You are expected to sell raffle tickets

•Grand prize is $10,000 ! Several other smaller cash prizes are also awarded

•Help your buyers find a way to make it work

Online Appeals (Facebook, Drum Corps Planet, Etc.)

•These are not as effective as one-on-one appeals because they are impersonal

•Be careful how you present your image and the corps’ image

Cavalier Alumni

•Cavalier Alumni are already being asked for lots of support

•Please do not solicit from Cavalier alumni unless you already have a personal relationship with that person
