i\ir. James is too well knownto the voters of his ward to needan introduction at our hands, but we wish to say a few wordsrelative to his record as a mem-b&r of the police jury the pastthree years.

"Frank" has always stood forevery progressive movementthat has beer, brought before thebody of police members. He ha.taken a broad view on alll legis-lation and cast his vote where itwould benefit the parish as wellis his own ward and in the in-terest of the general develop-ment anclpro• rity of our par-

ward and has always deen" re

We cheerfully commend his-andidacy to the favorable con-'ideration of the voters of the 1econd ward.

    H. F. Long. 1In the proper column of this

;sue appears the formal announ-,ement of Mr. H. F. Long as aandidate for member of policeury from ward 6.Mr. Long is a progressive

AN S. J. HARPERANNOUNCES FOR THE SIATE

    ay SENATE

noiia, To the People of the 27th Sena--torial District:

;ditor In announcing myself as a candidate for the position o,i' State

Ivancea Senator for this District for the

'choll next four years, I wish ?o .,tate

S that words tail to exprc, s howrish. much lappreciate the confidence

you reposed in me four ye:: S agoyween b electing me to the ver.C im-

rinri portant and responsible pos1. ionmetioned; and I no'':. shall iimen-

    uher- tion a few things I stand f, r.First. We have am•lng us a

Sor large number of people kn awnas a public working class whr, inthe near future will be left 1

we among us without jobs and with-ider:, out homes. They will be depen-Sen. dent upon us for homes, and for

them to be usefull citizens, theythose ,nust have hom,,s. but how they

feel are to get them. when all the pub-gain, lie lands have been taken up al-if he ready, is the quiestion to be solv-

    Son ed.

At present I know of no wayexcept through the rural creditsystem. The rural credit system t

this does not mean that the peoplermal will be given or loaned money

    P. with which to buy merchandise, ceed but to secure homes on long term:(lice and at a low rate of ititerest, so

    that any energetic. economical

    o)w person can secure a home.need Second. I believe the school e

uds, system needs to be brought more)rds under the control of the local

em- boards of trustees, and consider-past able amount of,1' the red tape un-

der which it is today cut out. Wefor need more practical business in nlent our schools. It is taking too long lthe and is costing too much for a Thas child to get an education. We Tgis- are educating our children away

,e it from the farms, which only adds iveil more people to the roving class.

in- the parish superintendent ofop- public education should be elec- Fo

o- c ance with the greatest econo- ra.ar- my that he or she could not lay atii:os- up something with which to

meet a "rainy day" or secure ahis home.

tion bill that come up in the Senate, yet I recognize the fact that an

,in many instances local option is wthis not much better than opensa-n- looon, therefore as a protection il

s to local option communities, I Thice favor state wide probition :eith. n

needful, but deem it unncessarys at this time.

n Thanking you for the confi-. dence you have reposed in me as>f expressed at the polls four yearss ago, and thanking you in ad-Svance for your suppoL, at the U
