HABITAT FOR HUMANITY Helping Families Help Themselves

Dolly Certified

Habitat for humanity began in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller.

The Salt Lake affiliate was started in 1986.

Habitat is funded by the government and through private donations.

SLC affiliate houses 3-4 families per year.

Some affiliates house up to 300 families in 1 year.

All houses are built by volunteers.

Some work must be done by contractors, such as plumbing and electricity.

Most materials are donated.

The ReStore

Home improvement thrift store.

All items donated. Store staff mostly

volunteers. Money from store assists in

builds. Another way for Habitat to

help community.

retailers.Income of the store is used to improve the community by expanding building

projects.

How it all works.

Habitat sells houses at market value.

They hold mortgage at 0% interest.

Saves families money.“I’ve learned more about the needy than I ever did as governor or as president. The sacrifice I thought I would be making turned out to be one of the greatest blessings of my life…I don’t know of anything I’ve ever seen that more vividly demonstrates love in action than Habitat For Humanity” Jimmy Carter Former U.S. President

Partner families must complete 200 hours of service, (sweat equity) per adult on the mortgage.

Monthly payment is based on families’ income.

What Habitat wants us to know

They are not offering a handout. They help people get on their feet. Partner families have to assist and

make an effort. Everyone is encouraged to

volunteer.

Getting CPR Certified Becoming Certified in Cardio Pulmonary

Resuscitation (CPR), is an important step to ensuring you know what to do in case of an emergency. Knowing CPR can save someone’s life.

Contact your local chapter of the American Red Cross. This is a volunteer based organization that offers CPR training at varying days and times.

Find a CPR Certification course offered by the American Heart Association.

Obtain CPR Certification through an online course. It’s a quicker and more convenient way to obtain the same training for those who are unable to make it to hands-on classes, or for those who cannot afford the usual fee.

Get recertified, if you have been certified in CPR before and are looking to recertify, the same sources that offer certification offer recertification.

Check with your area board of education. Local schools sometimes offers CPR certification courses for parents or local residents.
