1. Hand eczema is a type of irritant contact dermatitis.

2. Hand eczema develops when the skin comes in contact with irritating substances that have a direct toxic effect on it.

3. Contact with irritating substances results in the skin releasing inflammatory mediators.

4. Soaps and detergents are some of the substances that cause hand eczema.

5. Solvents such as alcohol and turpentine can also cause irritant contact dermatitis on the hands.

6. Irritant contact dermatitis is the most common occupational skin disorder.

7. People with atopic dermatitis are more prone to developing irritant contact dermatitis.8. Housewives are also prone to developing “eczema on hands” or homemaker’s eczema.

9. Workers whose jobs involve frequent contact with water and chemicals such as hair dressers, cooks, and nurses are also prone to developing occupational hand eczema.

10. Symptoms of hand eczema include developing an itchy or burning sensation on the skin when they come in contact with the irritating substance.
