Where does milk for cheese come from?

Bienvenue à la dégustation de fromage! Welcome to the cheese tasting!

As you enter, please take BUT DO NOT EAT:

1. A plate of cheese, “petits toasts,” and a petit écolier

2. Two slices of bread

3. Grapes

4. The beverage of your choice (water, grape juice)

5. Napkins

Today, you will receive a brief background on each cheese and then we will sample

them together, one at a time, in a specific order.

We will share our thoughts on each cheese and then vote for the best and worst at the

end!

Brie de Meaux

Known as the “queen of cheeses”Meaux = the town where it is made

Cow’s milk, ripens for 6-8 weeksYou can eat the white rind

Boucheron

Loire valleyGoat’s milk

Ripens in 5-10 weeks

Ossau Iraty

Southwest France, Basque countryOne of only 2 sheep’s milk cheeses with

Morbier

Named after the town of MorbierCow’s milk, layer of ash in the middle

Milk must come from controlled area around the town of Pont l’Évêque

Aged 2-6 weeks
