How to extract SAP BW Queries

with Xtract PPV into Power Pivot

Start Xtract PPV Designer. Click Connect (1) to connect to the Xtract PPV Server.

Click Login (2).

Click on Server -> Sources (1).Click Add to define an SAP Connection (2).

Set the connection name (1) and the connection information (2). Test the connection (3). Click Ok twice (4).

Close the dialog Manage Sources.

Click New (1). Select BW Cube / Query (2) as extraction Type. Enter a name for the extraction (3). Click OK.

Select the SAP Source connection (1). Click OK.

The Data Source dialog opens. Click to open Look Up dialog (1)Fill in BW Query name (2) Click to search BW Query (3)

Select your BW Query. Click OK.

The metadata is automatically fetched from SAP.Now drag and drop the Key Figures and Dimensions (1)

to the right pane of the dialog (2).Click OK.

Select the recently created extraction (1).Click Run to start the Run Dialog (2).

Copy the URL to Clipboard (3).

Now we would like to extract the data to PowerPivot.Open Excel and select PowerPivot -> Manage (1).

Select From Data Service -> From OData Data Feed (2).

The Table Import Wizard opens.Insert the URL in the field Data Feed Url (1).

Test the Connection (2) and Click Next.

On the Table Import Wizard click Finish (1).Click to close the Wizard after the import is finished (2).

The data is now loaded into PowerPivot (1).Select PivotTable -> Chart and Table (Horizontal) (2).

Select the option to create a new worksheet (3).

The PowerPivot sheet is ready to be filled with data from the field list in the right pane (1).

Select the fields to be used within the chart in the right pane (1)Enjoy the result!
