Terms:

• Web 2.0: The read/write web-interacting with information online

• Social Networking: Interacting with others (in any way with anyone) online

• Blog: Provides commentary or news on a topic or acts as an online journal

• Wiki: A web site that can be edited by anyone

Parents Should:

• Know passwords to all of their child’s social networking sites

• Be familiar with these sites • Have access to their child’s email

account(s) (ALL of these sites require an email address to log in.)

• Know your Internet filter (or invest in one if possible)

If your child DOES come across something inappropriate:

• Have the child turn off the monitor and tell an adult

• Forward you an inappropriate email

• Remove all “friends” from lists that you do not know
