A message from your President - Bill Wilson
T he May 9 meeting was well attended.
Two new faculty retirees- Allan Gerson and R. Mike Donnelly-were
recognized but unable to attend.
Annual election results for 2002-2003
were these: President, Bill Wilson; Vice-President, Kathleen Asher; Secretary, Joan Holloway; Treasurer,
Honey Duncan. Appointed positions were Newsletter Editor, Joan Young; Social Welfare C hair, Helen Darcey; College Liaison, Lis Erling; and Parliamentarian, Honey Duncan.
Our membership updating process has
been completed. Cu rrent membership lists have been mailed. We are right at
100 EFA members at present, a record number.
Our thanks to Joe Schneider for his presentation on health insurance and
Medicare medical options for retired people. His was not only a timely message but one of vital importance to all.
Our one big social event is scheduled
for December 6 at the Atlantis Country Club. Mark your calendars!

Although Atlantis has raised its fees,
we are still holding the event for $20
per person. A couple of members have
opined that $20 is steep for lunch.
But this is more than a social luncheon. It's .. . a . . . HAPPENING!
Come and greet your long-time friends and colleagues. You will
receive specific information for this
third annual fiesta in early November.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Friday, October 4. Invitations and
information wi ll be mailed early in
September.

News of members Frank Adams taught as an adjunct
during the Spring Term. He and
Kathy visited Washington, DC, and
their daughter Kimberley in northern
Virginia in June.
Kathleen Asher has five grandchil
dren. The Ashers will be visiting them
this summer in Raleigh, NC, and in
Vassar, MI.
Joanne and John Connolly are
spending the summer at home in
Delray Beach after a very busy travel
ing schedule during the first half of the
yea r. They attended John's nephew's
wedding in Los Angeles in January and
cook side trips to San Diego and
Coronado Island. T hen, Joanne visit
ed her father@i Portland, OR. During
April, they toured Brittany in France,
hiking and exploring megalithic sites,
and visited England's Sutton Hoo
archeological site. From there, they
drove to Stratford-upon-Avon for a
play and Wiltshire for more hiking and
archeological "site"seeing. Their final
days in England were spent in
London- at the theatre, at the British
Museum, and at the new Tate Gallery
of Modern Art. They returned home
to find their house flooded because of
a leaking hoc water heater, bu'C)after
resolving chat problem, traveled co
Atlanta co celebrate their son's confir
mation and to watch their grandsons
play tournament football.
Don Cook writes that he and his wife
live full-time in their motor home.
They are members of MMAP (Mobile
Missionary Assistance Program), doing
construction and repair work at youth
camps and churches all around the
country. This past spring they were at
the Sheriff's Boys Ranch in Live Oak
and then in New Hampshire.
Helen Darcey and her husband, John,
traveled to North Carolina in early
May co attend the Biltmore Estate's
Festival of Flowers in Ashville, then to
Blowing Rock in Boone, then to the
Outer Banks.
From June 25 through July 9, Lucile Dickinson was on staff on the cruise
liner SS Extlore!'_, working in the com
puter classroom as it traveled along the
Alaska Coast.
Kathleen Drawdy and her husband
spend April through October in their
mountain home in Young Harris, GA.
Lis Erling is on the mend from hernia
repair that was performed in April.
Congratulations to Dennis Gallon (above), current President of PBCC,
who has received the University of
Florida Institute of Higher Education
Outstanding Graduate Award. The
award recognizes graduates of the UF
College of Education's Higher
Education doctoral program who have
established distinguished records of
leadership in their institutions, com
munities, and professional activities. It is one of the highest honors conferred
byUF.
Craig Gathman keeps busy with his
Military Auxiliary Radio, which
enables active duty military persons to
keep in touch with their families, etc.
Banna Ghioto (above) was honored to
be the principal speaker at a ceremony
on Memorial Day at Pine Crest.
Paul Graham received radiation
therapy at Wellington Cancer Center
through July 30.
After many years of residency in Spain,
Joan Jones is now living in Las Vegas,
NY, and reports chat she is enjoying
the beautiful scenery and all the activi
ties.
Glen Marsteller is driving a tour bus
in Yellowstone National Park for the
summer.

copyrighted in 2001, and Tsunami
Deep Sea Monitoring Gauge, for
which a patent is pending.
Eleanor Myatt's travels in March took
her to Caribbean islands with her
half-sister, 96 years of age! They
visited M argari ta, Venezuela; Bonaire,
Sc. Lucia, Dominica; St. Thomas,
Virgin Islands; and the Bahamas.
Mary Orsenigo was very happy to see
many "old" acquaintances at the Dolly
Hand Center Gala in April.
From April through October, Art Schneider leaves his Lake Worth home
to live in his cottage at 770 Grace
Road, Frankfort, MI 49635, six hun
dred feet from a sandy Lake Michigan
beach . H e and his dogs love it!
In the spring, Frankie Sprague vacationed in Malta, "older than the pyramids," she says. She still works parttime as communications consultant
for Labor Finders International, a temporary staffing franchise firm.
Jewell Sterling considered it "a real treat" to visit with everyone at the pre
holiday luncheon last year. She came all the way from California! This past spring she visited Williamsburg, VA.
Jim Tanner was not at the May meet
ing, because he and Norma went to Iowa, where Norma's mother is in a nursing home.
In mid-Oc~ber Bill Wilson will be in
Branson, MO, for a reunion with all those who served on the US. Navy aircraft carrier, USS Coral Sea. Bill is also still participating in KAIROS, a
prison ministry, and will be serving for a weekend in November at the Okeechobee Correctional Institution.
Betty Woolfe and Bob are enjoying
their life style in John Knox Village, a retirement community in Orange City, FL. Betty serves there on the Residents' Council and chairs the
Activities Committee. ("What else for
a retired Continuing Education Director?!" she writes.) They continue to travel and take lots of photos for
their memory books.
Joan Young is serving as Chair of the Retirees Commission of FACC, which she invites all of you to join. (She is
also Secretary of the PBCC Chapter of FACC.) She continues to construct crossword puzzles for publication and has become an addicted player of
NTN Trivia games in local bars and restaurants.

May Meeting Report Guests at the meeting held on May 9, 2002, were Kathy Adams, Jan Bussell, and Rosalie Morrissey. Constitution Committee Chair Bill Boorman reported that amendments to the EFA's Constitution will be proposed at the meeting in October 2002. President Bill Wilson reported
that the EFA pre-holiday parry at the Atlantis Country Club in December was greatly enjoyed by the 44 participants. Wilson also announced that Faye Ledbetter had resigned for reasons of health and that he had taken charge of the treasury in the interim and was in the process of updating the membership list.
PROGRAM: Attendees were presented with an address by Joe Schneider about health insurance for retirees. The message included information about choosing between an HMO or a Medicare supplement, about Medicare HMOs, and about Medicare supplementary (Medigap) policies.
DRAWING: Michael Hakucha was the lucky winner of a $50.00 certificate for lunch or dinner at Atlantis Country Club.
