Key ConnectionsBoard Members Professionals Citizens Legislators Funding Nature

Open Space Communities Healthy Lifestyles Families

Illinois park districts, forest preserves, conservation, recreation and

special recreation agencies are, in one way or another, connected to

almost every facet of life. Our member agencies offer parks, recreational trails, fitness centers, instructional

classes and more that connect people to healthy, active lifestyles. They host events thatbring communities closer together. There are positive connections between propertyvalues and proximity to parks. And, research links children participating in after-schoolprograms to earning better grades and avoiding drugs, alcohol and gang activity.

The Illinois Association of Park Districts is committed to creating positiveconnections. In 2011, we introduced a wide array of technological advancements toassist our member commissioners, professionals and affiliated businesses in connectingwith the IAPD to access fast-breaking legislative information, new educationalprograms and content, grant information, research, public awareness opportunities and services designed to keep Illinois park, recreation and conservation agencies at the forefront.

Perhaps most importantly, IAPD connects our members with one of the mostvaluable resources available … each other.

IAPD’s presence on Facebook, flickr and YouTube provides quick, easy ways forcommissioners and professionals to stay in the loop, discuss challenging situations andshare successes. The IAPD App is a direct connection to our website, where memberscan search contact information for other IAPD member agencies and colleagues in thefield, access their message center, read the latest news feeds and view photo galleries. The new IAPD QR Codes provide quick, efficient access to specific informationregarding IAPD programs and services. And, our webinars enable members toparticipate in timely, cutting-edge educational programs at the click of a button, in thecomfort of their homes or offices.

We want to thank you for your commitment to stay connected to legislators, colleagues, and the citizens you serve. The Illinois Association of Park Districts pledgesto help you keep these connections strong and fruitful by maintaining our closerelationships with state and national government leaders; offering quality educationalprograms about the latest trends affecting our industry; providing affordable servicesto enhance the abilities and proficiencies of our member commissioners andprofessionals; and initiating statewide public awareness programs that promote theimportance of park districts, forest preserves, conservation, recreation and specialrecreation agencies.

We present this annual report as a tribute to your dedication, enthusiasm and hardwork. It’s also another way to showcase our most important connection, which is you.
