Projects within the programme will be prioritised for delivery over the next 30 years, subject to funding approvals. Projects will require statutory approvals and will be subject to the Resource Management Act, and Land Transport Management Act. All projects will be subject to further investigation to confirm land requirements, this will include further consultation on these options.

Takānini has a number of existing level crossings across the rail corridor. Level crossings can have safety issues and cause disruption for road users as trains have priority.

A new grade separated crossing (underpass or overpass) which will connect: Rangi Road and Mahia Road, north of the Takānini Interchange.

IMPROVING SAFETY AND CONNECTIVITY FOR TAKĀNINI

In addition we intend to grade separate level crossings on the following roads:

To improve safety and allow for increased movements on the rail line, we are proposing that two existing level crossings/roads be closed. These are at:

Taka Street

Manuroa Road

Spartan Road

Walters Road

We are also investigating upgrades to these roads and whether they will be 2 lanes or 4 lanes
