information and communication technology that an organization uses, but also to the way in which people interact with this technology in support of business processes.

describe a managerial job and when put together, make up the management process. This process includes planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling.

These are computer systems used for managing three primary components: • Technology, • People (individuals,

groups, or organizations)

• Data (information for decision making).

COMPONENTS OF INFORMATION SYSTEM

• Personnel consists of IT specialists (such as a Database Administrator or Network Engineer) and end-users (such as Data Capture Clerks).

• Hardware, which consists of all the physical aspects of an information system, ranging from peripherals to computer parts and servers.

• Management information systems (MIS), produce fixed, regularly scheduled reports based on data extracted and summarized from the firm’s underlying transaction processing systems to middle and operational level managers to identify and inform structured and semi-structured decision problems.

• Decision Support Systems (DSS) are computer program applications used by middle management to compile information from a wide range of sources to support problem solving and decision making.

• Executive Information Systems (EIS) is a reporting tool that provides quick access to summarized reports coming from all company levels and departments such as accounting, human resources and operations.
