CASE STUDIES

Flowsheet Development | Iberian Pyrite Belt VMS
Background
▪ Greenfield exploration project
▪ Contains both Massive Sulphide (MS) and Stockwork (STKW) ore types
Method
▪ Mineralogical assessment of both ores
▪ Sequential flotation for both the MS (Pb/Zn) and STKW (Cu/Pb/Zn) conducted
Results
▪ Mineralogy▪ Assessment showed that the copper in the MS was too fine for economic extraction with a liberation of less than
2µm
▪ Lead and zinc mineralogy also fine with primary grind sizes of c. P80 25µm anticipated, in line with existing operations in the pyrite belt
▪ STKW contained coarser mineralogy but with secondary copper sulphides thus containing an inherent sphalerite activation challenge
▪ Flotation▪ MS lead and zinc performance inline with other operations within the Iberian Pyrite Belt
▪ STKW produced saleable copper (26% Cu), lead (55% Pb) and zinc (52% Zn) concentrates with acceptable recoveries (c. 75%)
▪ Both ore types responded well to standard reagent regimes
▪ Further optimisation work scheduled for Q1 2021 to enhance existing performance
-
Flowsheet Development | West African Gold
Background
▪ Greenfield exploration project in West Africa
▪ Contains both oxide and fresh ore zones, fresh ore containing the larger tonnage
Method
▪ Heap leach and carbon-in-leach (CIL) amenability testwork
▪ Gravity testwork
▪ Flotation testwork on fresh ore only
Results
▪ Leaching
▪ Oxide ore responded very well to heap leach with recoveries greater than 95%
▪ Oxide ore performed even better to CIL with recoveries above 98%
▪ Sulphide ore also responded well to CIL with recoveries greater than 86%
▪ Gravity / Flotation
▪ Gravity response poor for both oxide and sulphide ores with only 30% of the gold gravity recoverable
▪ Flotation testwork of the fresh ore delivered c. 66% recovery, but only very preliminary testwork and further optimisation will improve this
-
Flowsheet Development | Iberian Tungsten
Background
▪ Brownfield deposit, previously mined
▪ Typically coarse Wolframite in veins
Method
▪ Coarse gravity separation with Jigs
▪ Fine gravity concentration with shaking tables
▪ Magnetic separation on both feed and gravity concentrates
Results
▪ Ore very amenable to jigging as a preconcentrate separator with >90% recoveries in all size fractions
▪ Fine gravity concentrate produced c. 60% WO3
▪ Magnetic separation on the tungsten concentrate increased grade to 63% WO3
▪ Overall recovery c. 70%
▪ Magnetic separation on the feed produced high recoveries and a suitable primary recovery technique with concentrate for further cleaning
