Purple light is a game on the iPhone which is aimed at the 6-12 year old. This app will need 1+ players. The infrared light will be placed somewhere by the opposite player(s) where it is visible (the player won’t be able to see the light unless they are looking through the camera). The other player(s) will then take it in

turns to use the app to identify where the light is but using the app’s camera.

My idea started out from an app that turned finding your keys into a game’. I then realised the annoyance of losing your keys and how playing a game wouldn’t help the mood you would be in after misplacing them in the house. I then decided

to change the idea slightly turning the ‘key finder’ into an interactive game of ‘hot and cold’, aiming it at a younger audience. The idea was to hide a decive which would calculate how far away you were from your iPhone and then show red (hot) or blue (cold) stars on screen. I looked into numerous ways of making this happen including Bluetooth, Infrared, and GPS. This

proved a lot more difficult than I first presumed it would be.

Having only a week left to deadline, I had hit a brick wall to find out how I would make an app/phone know it’s proximity. I had to change my idea rapidly. It had to be simple but effective. ‘Purple Light’ came out of researching Infrared for ‘Hot and Cold’ and the understanding that the naked eye couldn’t detect the colour of the light but through a camera you can pick

up a beautiful colour of purpley-pink. The infrared light will be connected to arduino, (unfortunately I didn’t have the cash spare to buy one) which will then be

hidden buy a player(s).
