Honorable Mention Best in Show for Mixed Media

In March 2007, the Interior Design students of SFA were featured in a local Nacogdoches publication, Buzz magazine. I made the cover, and a few decorating tips of mine made it inside!

Commercial Office Design

Ideation Samples

A Moroccan sunset is the driving force behind this executive office design. Nature, water, color, and pattern all work together to make this space feel like the occupant is sitting on a beach in Morocco watching a sunset. Nature is used to simulate the picturesque setting of Morocco and is done through the use of a window wall which allows the occupant scenic views of the garden outside and abundant natural light. Water is brought into the space with a traditional Moroccan fountain. A feeling of calm is achieved through the fountain with the slow trickle of water. The colors of the sunset come into the space with the use of fabrics, mosaic tiles, and wall coverings. The color choices all come together to emulate the sun setting. Pattern is also used in this space with the use of mosaic tiles, fabrics, and art work. The pattern used is meant to imitate the shape of the sun.

Kitchen Design Ideation

Residential Kitchen Design The colorful and whimsical nature of Art Nouveau is the inspiration behind this kitchen design. Curvilinear lines are used in the furniture and architectural elements within the space. Color is prevalent throughout; with splashes in the countertops, walls, and windows. Green design will also play a large role in this kitchen, using materials such as recycled glass countertops, bamboo flooring, and Energy Star appliances. The client’s special allergy and asthma concerns will require the use of earth friendly paint, wall coverings, and window treatments. House plants will also be utilized to improve indoor air quality. Natural light will be used to negate the need for electricity during the day and also to accent the curvilinear lines creating interesting shadows within the space throughout the day.

Master Suite Ideation

Residential Master Suite Design A relaxing haven in the theme of this master suite design with a naturalistic vibe. Curvilinear lines will be utilized in the projecting ceiling design, architectural wall arch, and curved wall entry into the bathroom. The colors within this space will be subtle and relaxing using whites and calming greens. Environmental concerns will play a role in the design of this space using cork flooring, VOC-free paint, and energy star washer and dryer unit. This space should be a place where my client can relax and the stress melts away.

This project was completed at the 2010 IIDA Texas/Oklahoma Chapter Student Conference. Ten teams of four faculty selected students were given a design challenge and had four hours to complete their design. The challenge was to take a window wall and create a space where we brought the outside in.

Model to accompany Presentation Board

An art gallery encompassing nature within itself. A natural cork oak tree that flows into the gallery and then transforming into an abstract element. The tree limbs, once inside, become industrialized with galvanized steel branches and a scattered glass canopy. Thus creating a space truly from the inside out.

SFA Faculty Office Design Charette

This project was designed for a member of the Stephen F. Austin State University faculty. Our class chose the candidate from a group of applicants and then worked in teams of five to design an office space for her based upon her unique needs. We had one week for this charette.
