Liturgical Formation

October 3, 2014

…will answer those who say that mass should not be celebrated at all

Many Protestants of

all denomination,

sects, cults, etc.

who object to the

Catholic celebration

of the mass.

2. at Mass- again they

say – we “crucify” the

Lord again and again,

forgetting that Jesus

died once for all

times.

Are these

interpretations

of the Mass

correct?

Not by a long shot! They are the product of

misinformation, ignorance

of the scriptures and of

theology

…Result of deep – seated

anti-catholic sentiment.

Everybody knows

that what we adore

in the Eucharist is

not bread but Body

of Christ, and is not

wine but the Blood

of Christ,

Why are they the Body and Blood of Christ?

Because Christ

Himself said so; and

being God, Christ is

infallible and cannot

tell an untruth

If Christ said so, what He said must be found in the bible.

Because

they

interpret

the Bible

in their

own way

They insist that when Christ said, “This is my Body.” “This is my Blood,” He was using a figure of speech.

….and that

the real

meaning of

those word, is,

“This is a

symbol of my

Body and

Blood.”

Please Read:John 6:11-13

John 6:22-24

John 6:32-39

John 6:41-44

John 6: 48-51

John 6: 53-58

John 6: 61

John 6: 66-69

Jesus

Miracles

Disciples Look for Jesus

Jesus

Bread of

Life

Own

flesh

Horrified

disciples

Own

blood

They turn

their backs

from Jesus

Did Jesus say them “wait a minute, don’t take it literally; it is only a figure of speech?

On the contrary,

Hinayaan nya na

Maraming umalis...

but even, he

challenges his twelve

apostles.

“Do you also

want to go”?

Tell me – would Jesus

have gone that far if He

had meant his words to

be a mere figure of

speech?

second

accusation

that at mass

we “crucify”

the Lord.

not only ridiculous

but goes directly

against the bible

The Gospel narratives

of the Last supper

show that Jesus

wanted the Eucharist

to be a

SACRAMENTAL

dimension of the

Paschal mystery

Paschal

Mystery:

Passion,

death and

resurrection

HOLY MASS

Mass: the bread and

wine DIE in the

sense that they stop

being bread and

wine

and they RISE

in the sense

that they are

changed into

the Body and

Blood of Christ

TRANSUBSTANTIATION-

change of

substance

This being so, why

don’t non-Catholic

Christians celebrate

the Eucharist

They don’t and

they do.

They don’t

reasons already

given

They do, in the sense

that every now and

then They

commemorate what

they call…..

The Lord Supper

But a supper

which is not a

mass but simply

a “fellowship

meal”

They also have

bread and wine but

they are mere figure

or symbol of the

Body and Blood of

Christ

Example:

Iglesia ni Manalo which

is not Christian

because it does not

believe in the Holy

Trinity and the Divinity

of Christ.

La Santa Cena-

holds it once a

year – but as a

fellowship meal

and symbol, not in

the way Jesus

intended it to be.
