Core Classes

Entering the Room• Enter at voice level two• Move quickly to your seat• Get out materials and begin the Do Now

• If assigned a job, begin immediately after setting down your things

• Be in your assigned seat at start time to avoid being counted tardy

• Both cheeks of your bottom must be in your seat to avoid being counted tardy

Classroom Jobs1. Paper collection and distribution2. Composition book collection and

distribution3. Timekeeper – 4th Core only

ElectronicsIt is school policy that you not have electronics

out for personal use during school hours. HOWEVERI have permission to allow you to listen to

music at certain times. I also have permission for you to use smart phones for research.

The first time I catch electronics being used at inappropriate times or in inappropriate ways this will end for EVERYONE.

Exiting the Room• The area around your desk must be clear of

all debris and all materials must be put away in the designated places before you will be dismissed.

• Remain seated until I give you the indication that it is time to line up

• Exit the room at a voice level no higher than 2

• Exit quickly so others may enter

Leaving During Class Class time is precious. All errands and bathroom

trips should be done before school, after school, or at lunch. Should an EMERGENCY arise…

• Utilize one of your passes if you have one left. Wait for me to come to a natural stopping point and I will sign the pass for you. If you can turn in all passes at the end of the 9 weeks you will be able to drop your lowest quiz grade.

• Leave the room at voice level zero and continue to your destination quickly and quietly.

• Return promptly

Raise Your HandDo this when you want to:1. Ask a Question2. Get out of your seat for any reason – sharpen

pencils, throw away trash, get materialsDo not speak or stand up until you are recognized.

Do not make noises to get my attention.BE PATIENT! There are lots of other people in the

room. I promise to get to you as quickly as I can.

When I Raise My Hand

When I need your attention I will raise my hand and say, “Ladies and Gentlemen, may I have your attention please?”

The correct response is for you to raise your hand to show that you have heard me and take your voice level down to zero

Do Not Bring• Gum• Drinks other than waterIf you have these things in class I will

throw them away.I do allow students to have occasional

snacks IF it does not interfere with class work and IF there is NO trash or debris on the floor at the end of class.

The First 20The first twenty minutes of

class are mine. Do not expect to leave for any reason. This is not

the time for sharpening pencils or getting materials.

RationaleI will be presenting material during the first 20

that will be essential. I need your full attention!

VisitorsThere will be lots of visitors coming to

our class this year. Expect to see the Principal, Assistant Principals, and other teachers.

STAY ON TASKIf they need your attention, I will let you

know.

What if I make a Poor Behavior Choice?

You have two learning opportunities after breaking a rule to correct your behavior.

The third time you make a mistake you will have a write up for a minor offense which will result in an imposed consequence that will include a call home.

Ms. Clary doesn’t play.

Class Work /Participation

All work that we do in class is important. All in class assignments will be graded.

IT IS PIVITOL THAT YOU STAY ON TASK

For monitoring participation we will be using a program called Classroom Dojo. I will demonstrate this to you at a later time. Each week we will set behavior goals and track progress.

QuizzesQuizzes are OPPORTUNITIES

Count on having a quiz EVERY Friday. You will have other Opportunities several

times a week. Some will be announced and some will not.

Make Up WorkIf you are absent, make up work is due

the Monday following the absence if you want full credit.

If you simply fail to turn an assignment in you will get a zero. You can turn the assignment in late for a 69.

This policy will change after the first 9 weeks.
