ELECTRON TRANSMISSION AND WAVE PROPAGATION THROUGH ONE DIMENSIONAL DISORDERED SYSTEMS P. ErdSs, Universit~ de Lausanne and R.C. Herndon, Florida State University.

The transmission properties of a one-dimensional disordered array of general potentials are calculated. Exact results for the average reflection-to-transmlssion ratio are presented which throw light upon the band structure of disordered systems. Different models of physi- cal systems simulate cases of long range, short range or neither type of disorder. Both spatial and shape disorder are considered. The conse- quences of introducing disorder gradually into the perfect lattice are analyzed. Numerical results for a finite array of 6-function potentials demonstrate these effects.
