He was born on July 24, 1945 in Karachi

He completed his Initial education at St. Mary's School, Mumbai and later on went to study Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, USA

He left his engineering studies and took over the

leadership at the age of 21 due to sudden demise of his

father

baby toiletries, lighting products and hydraulic

Azim Premji made a focused shift from Soaps to Software

His fantastic move resulted a 1.5 million company in

hydrogenated cooking fats grew to an over

 Wipro became the world first company to

assesed SEI-CMM Level 5

In 2000

Wipro became the first software technology and

services company in India to be certified for ISO 14001 certification

Wipro also became the world’s first company to win

PCMM Level 5 certification.

 Wipro was emerging as one of the world’s

He drives a Toyota Corolla and flies in economy class, prefers

to stay in company guest houses and even served food on

paper plates at a lunch honoring his son's wedding.

In 2001, he founded Azim Premji Foundation, a non-profit organization, with a vision to contribute to achieving quality education that facilitates a equitable, humane and sustainable society.

The Foundation works in the area of education for systemic change in India's

1.3 million government-run schools

In 2000, he was conferred an

honorary doctorate by Manipal Academy of

Higher Education

In 2005, the Government of India honored him with the

title of Padma Bhushan

In 2006 He was awarded

Lakshya Business Visionary by 

National Institute of Industrial Engineering

 In 2009, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from 

Wesleyan University for his outstanding

philanthropic work.

In 2011, he has been awarded  Padma Vibhushan

the second highest civilian award by the Government of India

In 2013, he was awarded the Asian Business Leaders Award

for his impulsive Business credentials and service to society.

To be able to predict the future and rightly predict it is what differentiates smart managers from managers.

He lives in a 1700sq.ft flat but he provided shelter to children's in more than

13 states.
