Leacock Amphitheatre

Project 15-056

Existing conditions

➢Leacock Building (1965) façades and foundation

show varying degrees of damages and

deterioration.

➢Concrete structure west and south of Leacock has

deteriorated over time due to water infiltration and

insufficient drainage capacity.

Project description

Phase I – Leacock Building:

▪Repairs to façades and exterior glass walls (“curtain walls”)

▪ Improvements to vestibules to make them universally accessible

▪Waterproofing of the foundation

Phase II - Areas south and west of Leacock Building:

▪Will be demolished, rebuilt and redesigned

▪Will be transformed into a multi-purpose exterior amphitheatre.

▪ Addition of a new washroom given high building occupancy.

▪ Bring building up to the most recent building codes with respect to the

electromechanical systems.

▪ Tentative end date:

• Full project completion by spring of 2019.

Project update

▪ Work completed:

• Rehabilitation of monument – incl. foundation, two center columns and

stonework

• Improvement of drainage system

• Renovation of half-moon by the city

• Installation of paving stones and landscaping on east side

▪ Work to come:

• Complete the replacement of underground electrical cables and conduit

infrastructure.

• Installation of granite benches, hydraulic and fixed bollards, new lighting and

interactive wayfinding tactile screen.

• Landscaping and furniture installation on the west side

▪ Tentative completion date: May 2018
