INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE + SUMMER SCHOOL • Technopolitics in Urban Regeneration: Co-creating Public Spaces, 27 junho 2019

“Our world has been in a process of structural transformation for
over two decades. This process is multidimensional, but it is
associated with the emergence of a new technological paradigm,
based in information and communication technologies (…). We
know that technology does not determine society: it is society.
Society shapes technology according to the needs, values, and
interests of people who use the technology.”

COMMUNALITY
(COMUNIDADE)
“As an individual, it is impossible to orient oneself within a complex
environment. Meaning – as well as the ability to act – can only be
created, reinforced, and altered in exchange with others. This is
nothing noteworthy; biolgically and culturally, people are social
beings. What has changed historically is how people are integrated
into larger contexts, how processes of exchange are organized, and
what every individual is expected to do in order to become a fully
fledged participant in theses processes.”

cidade não é uma coisa. …
Lefebvre. ”Carlos Fortuna, O Direito à cidade 2012:13 (original 1968)

HUMANA
TUR2019
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE + SUMMER SCHOOL • Technopolitics in Urban Regeneration: Co-creating Public Spaces, 27 junho 2019
“For decades the human dimension has been an overlooked
and haphazardly addressed urban planning topic, while many
other issues, such as accommodating the rocketing rise in car
traffic, have come more strongly into focus. … The potential
for a lively city is strengthened when more people are invited
to walk, bike and stay in city space. The importance of life in
public space, particularly the social and cultural opportunities
as well as attractions associated with a lively city [ is essential
to discuss].”Cities for people 2010:3

é o do pássaro e o mar o do peixe. Ele tem uma paixão e um
credo: desposar a multidão.”

RIZOMA

TUR2019
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE + SUMMER SCHOOL • Technopolitics in Urban Regeneration: Co-creating Public Spaces, 27 junho 2019
“Uma inteligência incessantemente valorizada. A inteligência é

“Power is the ability to do work. Which is what maps do: they work.
(…) they operate effectively. They work, that is … they don’t fail. On
the contrary, they succeed, they achieve effects, they get things done.
(…)
What do maps do when they work? They make present – they
represent – the accumulated thought and labor of the past … about
the milieu we simultaneously live in and collaborate on bringing
being.”

produzidos.
Multimédia - oferece a possibilidade de uso de outros formatos de média
utilizando a web 2.0.

PPGIS
“public participation geographic information systems” was
conceived in 1996 at the meeting of the National Center for
Geographic Information and Analysis (NCGIA) in the U.S. to
describe how GIS technology could support public participation
for a variety of applications with the goal of inclusion and
empowerment of marginalized populations.
What is Public Participation GIS (PPGIS) ?
Use of GIS to broaden public involvement in policymaking and to
promote the goals of nongovernmental organizations, grassroots
groups, and community-based organizations ( Ghose, 2007 ).
A form of GIS which allows the public to interact with spatial data
and information. Its main aim is to offer empowerment and
inclusion of marginalised populations in the decision making
process.

Volunteered geographic information (VGI) is the harnessing of
tools to create, assemble, and disseminate geographic data
provided voluntarily by individuals.
VGI is a special case of the larger phenomenon known as user-
generated content, and allows people to have a more active role
in activities such as urban planning and mapping.
