A special way to remember a loved one is to donate the month-
ly Altar Bread and/or Wine in honor of their memory. You may
also choose to remember a loved one by donating a weekly
Sanctuary Lamp in either the Church or the Chapel. Sanctuary
Lamps burn day and night to illuminate the Blessed Sacrament,
serve as an emblem of Christ's abiding love, and as a reminder
to the faithful to respond with loving adoration in return.
The Altar Bread for March is donated in loving memory of
the deceased members of our parish.
The Altar Wine for March is donated in loving memory of
the deceased members of our parish.
The Sanctuary Lamp in the Church this week is in memory
of the deceased members of our Parish.

A Message From Father Jose
May the love of our Lord Jesus Christ continue to
shower us in the events of life we encounter day by day. The
invitation to prepare ourselves for the coming Easter Celebra-
tion is important, that is why in the beginning of Lent, our Lord
Jesus Christ presented to us weapons of praying, almsgiving
and fasting. We encourage everyone to participate in our week-
ly observance of Lent, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and
the Stations of the Cross. I know that with our hectic schedules
and the pandemic, the difficulty of practicing the observance of
Lent is there but in our free time do not forget to take ad-
vantage of spending some time praying or reflecting the cove-
nant of the Lord in us. Truly in Him there is the fullness of life
we need.
Again thanks for all your support in our parish finan-
cial needs and your extended support to all the programs of our
Archdiocese especially the 2021 Annual Appeal.
God Bless for your generosity….Father Jose
Yo soy el Señor, tu Dios . . .
No tendrás otros dioses fuera
de mí.
— Éxodo 20:2a, 3
I, the Lord, am your God . . .
You shall not have other
gods besides me.
— Exodus 20:2a, 3
Total Allegiance
In previous weeks we have seen how the theme of covenant—
as a preparation for the baptismal covenant celebrated at Easter—
occupies an important place in our cycle of Lenten readings. The
notion of covenant as a relationship between two parties carries
with it an expectation of mutual accountability and fidelity to the
terms of the covenant.
When God forged the covenant with the Jewish people on Mt.
Sinai, it was a pledge of God’s protection, and it would forever
permit them familiar access as the Chosen People. For their part,
the Jewish people were to observe the dictates of the law, summa-
rized most succinctly here in the form of the Ten Commandments.
To be in a covenantal relationship with the Lord God requires
an exclusive relationship, just as discipleship with Jesus—
ritualized in baptism—demands a total allegiance to him and none
other.
“You shall not carve idols for yourselves in the shape of anything…” -
Exodus 20:4
How many “gods” do you put before God? “Idols” do not al-
ways take the shape of physical things, things we can touch and
feel. Those are easy to recognize. Many times they take the
form of things we cannot touch and are much harder to spot
like pride, power, ego, time, comfort or health. Pray for God’s
help to prune our vices and to grow in virtue.
Today’s Readings
First Reading — The law was given through Moses (Exodus
20:1-17 [1-3, 7-8, 12-17]) or Exodus 17:3-7.
Psalm — Lord, you have the words of everlasting life (Psalm 19)
or Psalm 95.
Second Reading — We proclaim Christ crucified; the foolish-
ness of God is greater than human wisdom (1 Corinthians 1:22-
25) or Romans 5:1-2, 5-8.
Gospel — Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it
up (John 2:13-25) or John 4:5-42 [5-15, 19b-26, 39a, 40-42].

Feast of Faith
Postures of the Mass
In the Mass, we pray not only with our lips, but with our
bodies as well. We stand when the ministers enter. In Western
culture, standing is a sign of attention, a mark of respect: all
stand when the judge enters the courtroom, for example. Stand-
ing is also an ancient posture of prayer, mentioned frequently in
the Old Testament. When the readings begin, we sit down: a
listening posture. Mary sat at Jesus’ feet to listen to his teaching;
the crowds sat on the hillside or the seashore to hear his words.
Kneeling is another posture that is full of meaning. It expresses
adoration and worship, but it can also express humility and
contrition. We bow: a sign of honor and reverence, acknowledg-
ing the presence of God, especially when we receive the Eucha-
rist. And there are other ritual gestures as well—striking the
breast, genuflecting, and of course making the sign of the cross.
The liturgy invites us to pray with our whole person—with
heart and mind, voice and body.
St. Frances of Rome (1384 – March 9, 1440)
As a girl, St. Frances thought she was called to be a
nun. Instead, however, she lived forty happy years as a married
woman. An exceptionally compe-
tent person, Frances conducted
herself according to clear priori-
ties. She expressed her commit-
ment to Christ first in her affec-
tionate care for her husband and
children, then for her extended
household, and finally for Rome’s
sick poor.
At twelve, Frances mar-
ried Lorenzo Ponziano, a noble-
man who loved her tenderly. She
drew close to Vannozza, her sister-in-law, who lived in the
same house and shared her zeal. Together they tended the sick,
seeking out Rome’s worst cases.
In 1400, Frances gave birth to a son, the first of four
children, all of whom she tended personally. A year later she
became mistress of the Ponziano family estate, which she man-
aged skillfully even during the ravages of the plague and the
turbulence of civil wars.
Frances made everyone feel like a best friend, and thus
attracted many people, especially younger women who ideal-
ized her. In 1424, with the full support of Lorenzo, she orga-
nized a group of women as the Oblates of Mary. They lived at
home under the Rule of St. Benedict without vows and shared
Frances’s mission to the sick. But seven years later, Frances
acquired an old building and called the women to live in com-
munity.
After Lorenzo died in 1436, Frances joined the Oblates
and became their superior. During the last half of her life she
received frequent visions and ecstasies. It is said that for twenty
-three years her guardian angel was visible to her, aiding her in
her service. She died in Rome in 1440.
Current Holy Rosary Fundraiser Proceeds: The current pro-
ceeds from our ongoing fundraising efforts for a church cooling
system are as follows: A/C Fundraising (ongoing): $26,127.50;
Four bake sales: $989; Tricky Tray (12/8/19): $1,470.
Stations of the Cross
Every Friday during
Lent in the Church at
5:00pm.
All are welcome!
Lenten Regulations
The days of both Fast and Abstinence during Lent are Ash
Wednesday and Good Friday. If possible, the fast on Good Fri-
day is continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night)
as the "paschal fast" to honor the suffering and death of the
Lord Jesus, and to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to
celebrate more readily His Resurrection. The other Fridays of
Lent are days of Abstinence.
On a day of Fast, only one (1) full meal is permitted, and two (2)
smaller meals, which, if added together, would not exceed the
main meal in quantity.
> Those between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast.
> On a day of Abstinence, no meat may be eaten. Those who
have reached the age of 14 are obliged by the law of abstinence.
> The obligation to observe the laws of Fast and Abstinence
“substantially,” or as a whole, is a serious obligation.
The Fridays of the year, outside of Lent, are designated as days
of penance, but each individual may substitute for the tradition-
al abstinence from meat some other practice of voluntary self-
denial as penance.
The time for fulfilling the Pascal Precept (Easter Duty*) extends
from the First Sunday of Lent, February 21, to The Solemnity of
the Most Holy Trinity, May 30, 2021.
*Canon 920,§1. All the faithful, after they have been initiated into
the Most Holy Eucharist, are bound by the obligation of receiving
Communion at least once a year.
A Prayer for Lent
Loving Father,
So many times I turn away from
You and always You welcome me
back.
Your mercy and love gives me con-
fidence
Thank You for the invitation to
share, fast and pray
so that You can form a new heart
within me.
Your powerful compassion for my
weaknesses leads me to ask for
mercy and await with great hope
the Easter joy You share with us.
Amen.
Take the Love of God with You as You Go…...

Thank you, God, for giving me a mind that can
know and a heart that can love.
Help me to stay focused on my studies, and encour-
age me when learning is difficult that I may grasp
the truth that is held out before me.
Grant me the grace to put my knowledge to use in
building the kingdom of God on earth that I may
find the courage to follow Your Son, Jesus. Amen.
