Involvement in BI

IT decision makers are equally as likely to consume/review reports

prepared by others (46%), as they are to investigate data for trends

and business insights (46%) or to leverage tools to build

dashboards/queries (45%).

IT also reports high levels of involvement with data

mining/statistical analysis (41%) and building of reporting

applications for others (40%).

Knowledge workers most often report spending time

consuming/reviewing reports others prepare (61%) and investigating

data for trends and business insights (51%).

Operational/front-line employees report the lowest incidence of

involvement with business intelligence/analytics categorizing their

involvement as consuming/reviewing reports others prepare.

What respondents believe?

75% agree that “In my organization, information is used to align

68% agree that “My organization views investments in

The reality

The majority of organizations regularly solicit feedback about

 but less frequently from:

 operational/front-line employees (55%),

 external partners (41%), and

 suppliers (34%).

Most organizations still concentrate their focus on delivering

information to the top tier of employees – executive

management, mid-level management and knowledge

workers.

The information delivery approach….

When asked which of two approaches would deliver a better user experience and

more adoption:

55% chose “powerful analytic tools for users to perform ad hoc analysis”, while

45% selected “an app store experience with a selection of information apps to

answer business questions with point and click”.

Many companies are still thinking about information management from

the perspective of knowledge workers and other data intensive roles,

rather than focusing on approaches that will most effectively help them

deliver pervasive BI to all employees, external partners, suppliers and

customers.
