Hi and welcome to play the Mental Models Game.

My name is Ville Keränen, and I am one of the inventors of the game, and it’s main developer

at the moment. My mission is to help people

to think and act different, better together.

I work with my friends in our company called Monkey Business. I am the

Design Lead.We are a small Action Learning

boutique, and we help organisations to solve tough strategic problems.

Why play the Mental Models Game?

The purpose of the Mental Models Game is to understand each other

better.When we understand each other

better, we can work together better, to have more fun and pleasant life, and also to be more productive & creative

together.

But what are the Mental Models?

I like to quote Peter Senge and what he says in his pioneering book

The Fifth Discipline:“Mental models are deeply held

internal images of how the world works, images that limit us to familiar

ways of thinking and acting. Very often, we are not consciously

aware of our mental models or the effects they have on our behaviour.”

Mental models are like the lenses through which we see the world.

They affect us a lot, many times unconsciously.

They both support and limit us in our daily life.

They are built over time, and can take a long time to transform.

My mental model is that it is possible to become aware of mental

models and also to change them.

The idea of the game is to become aware of our own mental models, and

talk about them with one another.As a result we can have more fun: be more creative and productive

together.There are now right or wrong

answers to the questions in this game.

How to play the Mental Models Game?

Aim is to have a good dialogue and share your the mental models with others and learn about their mental

models.Winner is the one who learns most.Think of your results as prototypes

that are tools for learning something new.

You will learn the game by playing it.

What is my mental model of dialogue?

“Dialogue is simple. When one speaks, others listen.”

from you heart.

How to have a good dialogue?1. Speak from your heart2. Listen with intention to

understand

On each round:1. Pick a Question Card2. Pick a Presentation Mode Card3. Pick a Group Mode Card4. Have a dialogue with your group for

five (5) minutes5. Present your ideas, prototypes to

the rest of the players in maximum of 2 mins.
