2013-2014 Keyboarding Class

Alligator• Alligators live in southeastern

United States’ water and lowlands.

• Alligators eat fish, turtles, birds, and small mammals.

• Alligators weigh up to 550 pounds. They are up to 12 feet or 3.7 meters long. They have dry brownish greenish skin.

• An alligator mother may help her young reach the water by carrying them in her mouth.

• Anacondas live in South America still fresh water.

• They eat deer and amphibians.

• They look like a snake.

• Like other snakes, anacondas swallow their prey whole.

• Ankylosaurus lived in North America.

• Ankylosurus did not eat meat but it ate leaves.

• It had bony parts on its back so meat eating

dinosaurs wouldn’t eat him.

• When he appeared was 68 million years ago and when he died was 65 million years ago.

Badger

• Badgers live in North America.

• The badger eats birds, insects and small mammals.

• The badger has black, white and gray fur.

• Badgers are incredible diggers. They have been known to dig through asphalt or even concrete.

• Butterflies live in North America, Europe, California, grassland, and forest.

• Butterflies eat flowers’ nectar.• Butterflies have 2 wings that

are about two inches long, and its color is white, orange, and black

• Butterflies taste bad to birds.

Cat• Cats live around the world.• Cats eat packaged cat foods made

with meat.• A cat weighs 6 to 15 pounds. Cats

grow to 16 to 20 inches and have fur.• Cats use their sensitive whiskers to

help them sense their surroundings in the dark. They also help the cat decide if it will fit into a tight space.

• Cheetahs live in the grasslands south of the Sahara.

• Cheetahs eat antelope, gazelles, impalas, puku, hares and other small mammals.

• Cheetahs look tannish white with black spots and black lines from its eyes to its mouth.

• The cheetah is the fastest animal in the world!

the Sahara, in grasslands, forests, deserts and mountains.

• Hyenas eat zebras, eggs, wildebeests and animal remains.

• Hyenas weigh 99 to176 pounds [45 to 80 kilograms] and are 4 feet [1.2 meters] long, including the tail.

• Hyenas have such powerful jaws that they can crack apart and eat large bones! Marisa P.

Jack Rabbit

• Jack Rabbits live in North America and parts of Central and South America.

• Jack Rabbits eat clover, grass and twigs.

• Jack Rabbits weigh 1 to 4 pounds and are 15 to 19 inches long.

• Jack Rabbits can be hard to catch. They can leap about 15 feet (4.5 meters), and their zigzagging hops make them hard to follow.

• Cats eat packaged cat food and mice.

• They have whiskers, fur, and can be brown, black, white or gray.

Lion

• Lions live In Africa, south of the Sahara.

• Lions eat deer, antelopes, zebras and other hoofed animals.

• Its weight is 250 to 400 pounds.

• When not in use each claw on a lion withdraws into a sheath in the paw. That helps the claws to stay sharp.

and rivers.• They eat other water animals.• They are 6 to 8 pounds and

they are 6 to 12 inches long.• They lay eggs.

• Starfish live in oceans and coastal areas.

• Starfish eat crabs, mussels and clams.

• Starfish look like a star and they feel like sand paper.

• A interesting fact about the starfish is starfish have five arms and if a hunting animal grabs an arm it can break off, but later the arm grows back.

• Starfish live in the Atlantic and Arctic oceans and coastal areas.

• Starfish eat crabs, mussels and clams.

• A starfish looks like a star in the sky. A starfish has 5

tentacles.• Starfish have five arms. If a

hunting animal grabs an arm it can break off allowing the starfish to escape; later the arm grows back.

• Wolves live in North Asia and North America.

• The wolf eats caribou, deer, elk and moose.

• The wolf weighs up to 75 to 120 pounds. The wolf is about 2 1/2 feet.

• The wolf has excellent senses of vision, smell and hearing. A wolf can see and smell a deer more than 1 mile or 1.6 kilometers away.

• The students chose their own animals and wrote down notes about them from World Book Online, Kids’ Edition.

• They typed their information into PowerPoint slides and chose a background color.

• They added a picture from Microsoft Clip Art, or used Google to find a picture on the Internet.

• Finally, they did a spell check and a reading check with Ms. Ewing, and she added their slide to the class’s virtual zoo.
