AssyriansFirst of new empires was formed here. Semitic-speaking people who exploited the use or iron weapons to establish an empire by 700 B.C.

This King made Babylonia the leading state in western Asia after the collapse of the Assyrian Empire. He rebuilt Babylon.

Persians

The Persians were Indo-Europeans who lived in what today is called southwestern Iran. They eventually were brought together

by one family.

Cyrus

A member of the Persian family that created a powerful Persian state stretching from the Asia Minor to India. He ruled from 559 B.C to 530 B.C. By 539 B.C he captured Babylon and let Jews that were held captive go back to Israel.

DarisHe was a ruler who ruled from 521 B.C to 486 B.C. He became the world’s largest empire and invaded Greece making the Persian government stronger.

SatrapiesDarius split the empire in to 20 provinces which are called satrapies.

Satrap“Protector of the kingdom”, governor of the province (satrapy) of the Persian Empire under Darius.

Royal Road

A efficient communication system made by the Persian Empire. Officials traveled on this to the empire with stations with food, shelter and fresh horses. This Royal Road went from Lydia to Susa, empire chief capital.

Immortals

People who were in an army of professional soldiers created by Persian kings. when they were killed they were immediately replaced. Means you never die. So the army was known as the Immortal Army because if someone did die they were immediately replaced.
