THERE FOR THE TAKING: The Dodgers today continue their 10-
game homestand (1-1) with the rubber match of a three-game series
with the New York Mets. With the victory yesterday, Los Angeles’
home record of 28-14 (.667) is just off the pace of the club’s best-ever
home mark of 55-27 in 1980 (.671). Beginning tomorrow, the Dodgers
welcome the Phillies and old friend Chad Billingsley to town for a
four-game series and then close out the first half of the 2015 season
with three games against the Milwaukee Brewers next weekend.
The Dodgers have won seven of their last 10 games and
today will look to improve their season series record to 15-7-
5. At home, the club is currently 9-2-2.
POINT AND CLICK: Today is the Dodgers’ annual Photo Day at
Dodger Stadium, where fans can come down to the field and snap
pictures with their favorite Dodgers. The event begins at 11:15 a.m.
and will last until approximately noon.
ACHES AND PAINS: The Dodgers today placed right-handed
pitcher Carlos Frias on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to July 1)
with right, low back tightness and recalled left-hander Daniel
Coulombe from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Coulombe, 25, last pitched
on Friday with Oklahoma City at Memphis, allowing one hit and
striking out two in 1.2 scoreless innings, and has a 4.03 ERA in 19
games at Triple-A this year. In five previous stints with the Dodgers
this season, he has allowed six runs in 6.1 innings (8.53 ERA) in four
relief appearances, while limiting opponents to a .240 batting average
(6-for-25) with seven strikeouts. Frias, who had been scheduled to
start against the Phillies tomorrow, has gone 5-5 with a 4.39 ERA in
14 games (12 starts) with Los Angeles this year.
LAST CHANCE TO SAVE!: The Dodgers are celebrating
Independence Day weekend with a three-day ticket special that began
Friday and ends following the game today or while supplies last. As
part of the special, all reserve level tickets are 50 percent off for the
game this Wednesday, July 8 against the Phillies. The first 40,000 fans
in attendance that evening will receive a Hello Kitty Plush presented
by Time Warner Cable. Complete details can be found by visiting
www.dodgers.com/special.
In addition to the ticket deal, the club is running merchandise
sales this holiday weekend, as all headwear is $10 off
through today’s game and logo baseballs, fan hands and mini
bats are 1 for $6, 2 for $11 or 3 for $15.
L.A. STORY: The Dodgers have gotten the better of the Mets in their
recent matchups, winning 14 of the last 18 against New York:

HOME VS. ROAD: Both the Mets and Dodgers have excelled at
home and experienced some struggles on the road this season:
Largest Diff in Win Pct, Home vs. Road – 2015 MLB
Team Home Road Diff
New York Mets 29-14 (.674) 12-27 (.308) .366
Los Angeles Dodgers 28-14 (.667) 18-22 (.450) .217
SOURCE: STATS, LLC
HOWIE DO: Dodger second baseman Howie Kendrick continued
his All-Star push yesterday, going 2-for-5 with a stolen base. Kendrick
is hitting .296 on the season and .432 (16-for-37) with two doubles, a
home run and eight RBI since June 25.
Kendrick is batting a team-best .369 with runners in scoring
position (12th, NL) this season (24-for-65).
GREAT D AND SOLID (HOME) RUN GAME: With another solo
homer by Adrian Gonzalez yesterday, the Dodgers have hit a
National League-best 104 home runs, 12 more than the Cincinnati
Reds. The club continues to lead the circuit with 297 walks (1st MLB),
a .331 on-base percentage and a .431 slugging percentage. Los
Angeles last led the National League in homers following the 1983
campaign, when they cracked 146.
The Dodgers now lead the Major Leagues with a .990
fielding percentage, just ahead of the Marlins (.989). That
percentage is on pace to set the top mark in franchise history
(.988, 2004), and Los Angeles has also committed the fewest
errors of any big league team with 32.
Center fielder Joc Pederson leads the team and is tied for
fifth in the NL with 20 home runs. According to STATS,
LLC, the Rookie of the Year candidate is just the eighth
rookie in baseball history to reach 20 homers by July 4,
joining his hitting coach, Mark McGwire (28, 1987), Jose
Abreu (26, 2014), Al Rosen (25, 1950), Wally Berger (22,
1930), Bob Allison (21, 1959), Albert Pujols (21, 2001) and
Dave Kingman (20, 2972).
Gonzalez is hitting .367 (11-for-30) with three doubles, five
homers and 12 RBI in eight games against the Mets since the
start of the 2014 season.
HOME SWEET HOME: Dodger starter Mike Bolsinger takes the
hill for the 12th time this season and is 4-1 with a 2.25 ERA and a .185
opponents’ batting average in five starts at Dodger Stadium. Bolsinger
has held right-handers to a .205 average this season and his ERA
during the day has been a stellar 1.65 (3 ER/16.1 IP).
Bolsinger has faced the Mets just once, making his Major
League debut against New York on April 14, 2014. The
right-hander came out of the bullpen and tossed 3.0 innings
at Chase Field, giving up two runs on six hits.
Zack Greinke fired 7.0 scoreless innings yesterday and now
has a career-best 27.2 scoreless innings streak in his last four
starts. Greinke’s 1.48 ERA leads the big leagues by a wide
margin and he is a serious candidate to start the All-Star
Game for the National League.
Dodger pitchers rank third in the Majors with a 3.25 ERA,
while leading the NL in strikeouts (711) and ranking second
on the circuit in WHIP (1.19).
Dodger left-handed reliever J.P. Howell came on to record
the final out in yesterday’s game, striking out Curtis
Granderson with a man on for his first save since June 12,
2011. Yesterday was Howell’s 14th consecutive scoreless
appearance since June 1 (11.1 IP) and his 28th game without
allowing an earned run (21.2 IP) since April 14.
THE SUSPENSE IS KILLING ME: The Dodgers find out later
today if they have a starting position player in the All-Star Game July
14 in Cincinnati. The reserves for the contest will be announced
tomorrow afternoon on ESPN and several Dodgers have put up strong
cases, including Adrian Gonzalez, Howie Kendrick, Yasmani
Grandal, Zack Greinke, Clayton Kershaw, Kenley Jansen, Justin
Turner and Joc Pederson.
CORN-FED MOUNTAINEER: The Dodgers recently signed non-
drafted free agent catcher Garrett Hope, who was a two-sport star at
West Virginia University, where he also played fullback for the
football team.
