Our Facility and Grounds

About Our FacilityOur History The Garrison Institute is located in Garrison, New York in a former Capuchin monastery overlooking the Hudson River. It is situated on the beautiful 95-acre Glenclyffe property, formerly the estate of Hamilton Fish, Governor of New York and later Secretary of State under President Grant.

Our Amenities Facilities include a variety of spacious meeting and breakout rooms, an inspirational non-denominational Meditation Hall, a wood-paneled Dining Hall, a library, a theater, high speed internet access, and audio and visual resources.

Our Hospitality One of the Garrison Institute’s primary goals is to create a hospitable environment for our guests. We can offer a place of refuge where people can withdraw from the business of their daily life. Accommodations are simple and quiet with enough space to breathe, rest, and meditate.

In Nature The tranquil, park-like setting, the gardens, the gazebo on a bluff by the river, and the many walking paths together create a natural setting for contemplation. The Garrison Institute property is connected to the Hudson River trail system and the Appalachian Trail.

Meditation Hall main floor

The Meditation Hall, a former chapel featuring clerestory windows and vaulted walls and ceilings, is on our main floor just beyond the lobby.

BedroomsWe have 50 single bedrooms and 45 double bedrooms. All bedrooms are located on the second, third, or fourth floors.

Bathrooms and Saunas

We have two spacious shared bathrooms on each residential floor, and elegant saunas occupy both men’s and women’s bathrooms.

Dining Hall main floor

With its dark wood, vaulted windows, and ceiling beams, the Dining Hall, which is located on the main floor, is reminiscent of the Great Hall at Hogwarts in the Harry Potter books.

The Board Room on the main floor is often used for private board meetings. The room can also serve as a breakout room.

Facing west and the scenic Hudson River, the Hudson Room on the main floor is flooded with sunlight in the afternoon. It can serve as either a breakout room or classroom.

Auditorium lower level

The Auditorium on the lower level just below the Meditation Hall is perfectly suited for physical practices such as yoga, akido, qigong, or tai chi. The space is also ideal for a breakout room.

LabyrinthWe have a beautiful boxwood labyrinth in our back meadow that can be used for group or private contemplative practice. A labyrinth is a symbol of an ancient pilgrimage. In today’s fast-paced world, the labyrinth provides a place to clear the mind, walk amidst nature, and reflect. Walking the path gives the physical, emotional, and spiritual connectedness that is necessary for wholeness and balance.

Trails and Fire PitThere are trails throughout the woods that adjoin our property, some of which lead the way down to the Hudson River and others that connect the Appalachian Trail. One trail marks the path of Benedict Arnold when he ran to escape his captors.

A fire pit in our back meadow provides an intimate evening environment. Bonfires can warm guests during cool evenings and provide an opportunity to relax and socialize.
