• The revised PSLE EL and FEL examination papers was

implemented since 2015

• The language skills tested give greater emphasis to the

21st century competencies in the teaching syllabus by:

a. Giving students greater scope for providing

personal response in speaking and writing

b. Greater emphasis on viewing skills integrated

with listening and reading

PSLE Standard English Paper 1 (55 marks)

Pupils are required to do two pieces of writing

1) Situational Writing (15 marks)

write a short functional piece e.g. letter, email, report to suit the purpose and context of a given situation

2) Continuous Writing (40 marks)

• write a composition of at least 150 words in continuous prose

• a piece of narrative/personal recount from a set of pictorial stimulus based on a KNOWN TOPIC (Theme)

• to read fluently with appropriate expression and rhythm.

2) Stimulus-based Conversation (20 marks)

Pupils are assessed on their ability to:

• give a personal response to a visual stimulus

• engage in a conversation with the examiner on a relevant topic.
