Parents often fail to report theirchildren’s ADRs

Many parents in the UK, particularly in London, do notreport suspected ADRs experienced by their children toa healthcare professional, according to new researchconducted on behalf of the UK MHRA. The researchshowed that parents in London were the least likely toinform a healthcare professional about a suspectedADR. Only 69% of London parents said they wouldreport an ADR to a physician and 39% indicated theywould ask a pharmacist. The percentage of parentsreporting ADRs was highest in Wales (88% and 56%,respectively). Interestingly, parents in London weremost aware of the MHRA’s Yellow Card Scheme as anoption to report an ADR, with 14% of London parentsindicating they know of the scheme compared with anational average of 9%.Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency.
