Progressing Cavity Pump Systems
NOV Mono is a leader in the design, manufacture and supply ofprogressing cavity pumps (PC Pumps) and arcial li soluonsworldwide. With over 75 years of experience, 8 internaonal
sites and global distribuon network, we provide a range of PCPump soluons that fulll many oileld producon needs. Ourline of downhole PC Pumps are designed for use in both oilproducon and dewatering applicaons where the economics ofproducon demand eciency, reliability and low life-cycle costfrom the producon equipment.
Common Applicaons
• Heavy Crude (aggressive geometry)
• Medium Crude
• Coal Bed Methane (CBM) / Coal Seam Gas (CSG)
• Shale Oil and Water
Features and Benets
• Lower Capital Cost
The lack of expensive foundaons, simple construcon andthe compact surface drive units greatly reduce start-up costs.
• Lower Running Cost
Typically, a PC pump has an overall eciency rang of above70% which is signicantly higher than alternave li methodsand lowers the cost per barrel of recovered uid.
• Reliable
The simple construcon on the PC Pump consists of only one
moving part. In most cases, a single helix gear “ROTOR” thatrotates eccentrically inside a staonary, elastomeric lined, double helix gear “STATOR”. This simple assembly handlesgas and solids without blocking and is resistant to abrasivewear.
• Environmentally Conscious Design
The low, unobtrusive prole of the quiet running surfacedrivehead makes the PC pump ideal for environmentallysensive areas. Also, state of the art Leak Free Stung Boxeswith leak detecon help protect the environment from spills.

Performance by Design
The Naonal Oilwell Varco downhole pump is designed for use with all Progressing Cavity Pump Driveheads to make acombined system, which oers a low operang cost.
Rotors are available in alloy steel (4140) with hard chrome plang, which provides resistance to abrasion and wear.
Through the use of up-to-date manufacturing technology and modern producon techniques, accurate machining andplang of the rotor prole is maintained ensuring that the design performance is always achieved.
Elastomer Opons
A range of stator elastomers is available allowing the pump to be selected for many downhole uid condions.
• (OA) Medium Nitrile - This compound is a medium acrylonitrile rubber with good oil and solvent resistance. OA hasgood physical properes having above average tensile and tear strength characteriscs. It also has good resistanceto heat, ozone aack and very high resistance to gas permeaon. Typically used in abrasive and high water cutapplicaons with low aromac content. Maximum temperature - 200°F (95°C)
• (OB) High Nitrile - This compound is a high acrylonitrile rubber. The higher acrylonitrile content improves the oil andsolvent resistance of the compound making it suitable for handling crude oils with medium to high aromac content.
OB has high tensile and tear strength characteriscs. It also has good resistance to heat, ozone aack and explosivedecompression. Maximum temperature - 212°F (100°C)
• (OD) “So” Medium Nitrile - This compound is a medium acrylonitrile rubber with good oil and solvent resistance. ODhas excellent mechanical properes and oers the highest level of abrasion resistance. OD has a lower durometerthan OA and is typically used in highly abrasive applicaons with low aromac content.Maximum temperature - 195°F (90°C)
• (OH) Hydrogenated Nitrile - This compound is a high acrylonitrile rubber. The properes of this compound are verysimilar to those of the OB elastomer with improved resistance to hydrogen sulphide (H2S) and the ability to operate ahigher temperatures. The temperature resistance is further increased when combined with a High-Temperature-Lock(HTL) stator. Maximum temperature - 275°F (135°C), Maximum temperature with HTL - 300°F (150°C)

High Temperature Downhole Pumps
Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) methods including Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD), Cyclic Steam Smulaon(CSS), and electric heang have given new life to wells that were dicult to produce because of their highly viscouswell uids. This new life also introduced many challenges for the tradion arcial products because of the down-holetemperatures associated with these EOR methods. This challenge has been address by NOV Mono with the introduconof the patented High Temperature Lock (HTL) and the Metal-to-Metal pumps.
High Temperature Lock (HTL) Pumps
Mechanically secured stator elastomers that do not rely on the bonding agent between the elastomerand the stator tube for greater temperature and chemical resistance
Features & Benets
• Capable of handling downhole temperatures to 150°C (300°F) when combinedwith the OH elastomer
• The stator elastomer is mechanically secured to the stator tube
• This patented design does not rely on the bonding agent between theelastomer and the stator tube
• Compable with steam injecon – in many cases, the stator does not have tobe removed from the well

HTL Pump Models Available
Metal-to-Metal (MTM) Pumps
Metal-to-metal pumps do not use elastomers, eliminang all limitaons resulng from an elastomeric statorelement and raising the maximum downhole temperature limit to an unprecedented level
Features and Benets
• Capable of handling downhole temperatures to 350°C (660°F)
• Features metal-to-metal rotor/stator technology
• Closely controlled tolerances between the metal-to-metal rotor/stator clearancefor superior performance and allows for rotor change outs in the eld which
signicantly reduces workover me and costs.• Produces low levels of vibraon that are comparable to convenonal downhole

PROGRESSING CAVITY PUMP SYSTEMS
Leak Free Stung Box
The NOV Mono Leak Free (LF) stung box is a pre-built assembly that provides leak freeoperaon to protect the environment as well as a simple seal wear monitoring system to aidwith maintenance scheduling.
Features and Benets• Designed with a sealed two bearing system and a double mechanical seal cartridge
for easy replacement
• Can be mounted directly on drivehead with or without a booth
• Easy ng of the cartridge arrangement with no seng requirement normallyassociated with convenonal mechanical seals
• All sealing faces are made from solid material for increased pressure and thermal stability
• Equipped with a leakage detecon unit which provides a visible indicaon to any breach of the primary sealand also ensures barrier uid lubricaon of the seal faces for maximum durability
• Gas exclusion system reduces the chances of gas reaching the seal faces
Hydrodynamic Brake
The Hydrodynamic Brake consists of a staonary half (stator) anda rotary half (rotor). The stator is bolted into the housing and therotor is coupled to the sha. During normal operaon the rotor spinsfreely. When the unit goes into backspin, the rotor begins to rotatein the counter clockwise direcon. The working uid is then forcedto the outside of the rotor and creates a circular ow path inside thebrake cavity. As the energized uid from the rotor comes into contactwith the staonary ns of the stator, the energy is transferred to thestator and then back to the working uid as heat. A small amount ofworking uid is connually removed from the system and replaced
with new uid. The working uid contained in the drivehead reservoiris used as the braking medium, which allows the energy stored in theuid column and rod string to safely dissipate without the driveheadreaching excessive backspin speeds.
Features and Benets
• Non-fricon brake eliminates wear on brake components
• Brake capable of 2000 -lbs resisng torque at 250 hp
• Reliable and repeatable braking
• Backspin energy is absorbed by the working uid
• Heat generated by braking is dissipated by the uid reservoir
• Consistent braking with minimal maintenance throughout thedrivehead’s life
