Rococo vs. Baroque
How to recognize them?
What Is Baroque? The Baroque is a period of artistic style influenced sculpture, painting,
architecture, literature and music. The popularity of the style was
encouraged by the Roman Catholic Church. Being dramatic, the style of
Baroque represents triumph, power and control. Entrance of courts, grand
staircases are usually decorated in Baroque. The typical Baroque house
had two rooms-one private for the owners and one rich ornamented intended
for guests. It was really important for the owners to impress their
companions. A bare room without lots of furniture and decorations was
considered as a poor taste.

If This Was Baroque, Then What Is Rococo?
Rococo(or late Baroque) stands for is an artistic movement from 18th century. Rococo artists tried to change Baroque in more joyful and graceful way. As a matter of fact, the style was very criticized by some, but also widely praised for its aesthetic qualities. Another feature that distinguishes these two styles is that Rococo is not religious oriented. While Baroque embraced formality, Rococo represented warmth and comfort. The typical Rococo colours were gold, white and pastels. Artificial light was common to both styles. Unlike Baroque, impressing their guests was not that important. The ordinary people wanted to be convenient in their own houses. Another characteristic features of the style are asymmetrical features and shapes.
