Moscow State University – is one of the oldest and largest classical universities in Russia. Since 1940 it has the name of Mikhail Lomonosov.

Moscow State University comprises 15 research institutes, 40 faculties, 300 departments and 6 branches (including five overseas).

I. Shuvalov and M. Lomonosov took part in founding the university. The decree on the founding of the university was signed by Empress Elizabeth in 1755.

Moscow State University has a home church - Temple of Martyr Tatiana.To commemorate the signing of the decree St. Tatiana’s day is celebrated every year.

Now University has more than 600 buildings and structures at its disposal, among them Museum of Earth.

It also has Scientific Library, Student Theatre, Botanical Garden, Research Zoological Museum and the Yacht Club.

Among university graduates there are 11 Nobel laureates and 5 Fields Medal winners, senior politicians, including the leaders of the country.
