Ladders should be regularly examined for defects. Inspections should be conducted at three monthly intervals. The following items should be checked for each ladderand the results recorded below.

‘ Is the ladder clearly marked with an individual reference number? ‘ Is ladder stored appropriately and in the correct place?

‘ Check condition of rungs and stiles (including those at head and foot) ‘ Check cleanliness (eg contamination with oil, grease or mud)

‘ Check for signs of corrosion ‘ Check there is no movement in the rungs or stiles

‘ Check there is no distortion, warping or sagging ‘ Check the condition of plastic or rubber feet and fittings

‘ Check the ladder stands firmly
