PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Finally I watched some tennis and now I understand what Tony P was talking about re the sponsorship. I can remember watching Bjorn Borg play in Johannesburg when he was seventeen years old but then sanctions soon put a stop to all that so it is wonderful for us and of course my girls to be living in a place where so much is happening all the time, sport, theatre, arts etc. And of course just when your head is too full of that ‘high – falutin’ stuff you can stroll down to the beach at Surfers and see the real world! Teresa’s talk about Clubrunner was very informative and I saw a number of members downloading the app on their phones so perhaps it is time for us all to at least try to log on and look around. One of the reasons children are good with computers is because they’re not scared to press buttons. Remember your username is– your name, followed by 7970 as in andrewmiddleton 7970 (one word). Your password if you’ve never logged in before is 7970, which you can change once you’re in. Easier than Rubiks Cube. Next week is an assembly for Lambert to announce his board for next year. See you next week Andrew

Scribes Report 22 January
Chairman Merv Powell opened the meeting with the Toast to the Queen and Australia.
Neil Russell toasted the Rotary Club of Suva.
President Andrew welcomed members and visiting Rotarian Teresa Dawson, President of Parkwood
Rotary club and our guest speaker.
Director and Member reports:
ADG Michael Irving invited all Rotarians to attend the Coomera Valley Rotary club Anzac Day
Ceremony. We have a history of participation and he urged us to plan to attend this year.
The deadline to pay a discounted rate for the District Conference has been extended.
The conference is at the Royal Pines Resort so is close for us to attend.
Bill Connelly reported that future programmes are now on the web site.
He has arranged a Barefoot Bowls night including partners for Tuesday 12th
February
Peter Overall reported that we have had 7600 rides so far for January and expects to reach 10,000 for
the month.
We need some volunteers for weekend shifts in February.
Peter has had email contact with a former YEP student from Denmark who was here in 1990’s.
Hugh Smith invited members to a social evening on Friday 1st February at 4 Skye Court, Sorrento.
BYO drinks and a plate of “International” nibbles to share. It is to be a fun casual evening.
President Andrew reported that transportation may be needed for the lunch we are providing for the
Rotaract Games being hosted by the Southport Rotaract club on 16th
February.
Secretary Greg reported 21 members in attendance with one visiting Rotarian for a total of 22.
There is membership forum on 24th
February President Andrew, Secretary Greg and Director Don
Dineen will attend.
He is coordinating a visit to the Rotary club of Surfer’s Paradise in the near future.
Hopefully, the communication problem with District has been solved so we should see more
information flowing from District.
There is a RAWCS seminar and training session on 2nd
February.
Sergeant Tony Pritchett promoted the movie “Quartet” and managed to extract funds from those that
have seen it and for those that have not.
Fines were levied for watching tennis and for naming the sponsors of the Australian Open.
We were then given an economics lesson in the American “fiscal cliff” by subtracting many zeros of the
figures involved. He then managed to draw his own ticket in the raffle.
Heads and Tail: Don Knight
Raffle: Tony Pritchett
Teresa Dawson then gave us a great insight into Clubrunner.
Many Clubs and District are moving to Clubrunner and it is integrated with RI so it is becoming the
main communication tool for Rotary.
Clubrunner is:
Online- therefore access anywhere
More than a Website
Membership Management
Effective communication
Rotator – January 29 7
Efficient organisation
Integrated with RI
Each member should make sure that their profile is up to date;
If you have not changed your password your access is;
“Yourname7970” (one word no spaces)
Password: “7970”
Committee reports and events can be posted.
Attendance at events can all be done through the site.
RI information will soon automatically be updated onto our website through the RRS feed.
The New District Website will be on Clubrunner so postings will flow back and forth between Club
sites and District.
Under the Club Directory is an email list making it easy to email members as well as Board Meeting
minutes, committee meeting minutes etc.
The main advantages of Clubrunner are that it:
Is user friendly
Saves time in administration
Consistency of data –email addresses, phone numbers etc.
Effectively communicates.
Fun
There is an App for Clubrunner which several members downloaded onto their phones at the meeting.
Neil Russell thanked Teresa and President Andrew closed the meeting with the signing of Advance
Australia Fair at 8.05pm.
Apologies
Apologies to Lambert Wang lambert@beneficialequity.com.au by Sunday Midnight of each week.Late or no apologies will have to pay. .

Thoughts for the week
Gail and Don Dinneen were with friends who described Don as a wit. Gail says this is only half true.
To err is human, but if you really want to screw things up use a computer.
What is a computer’s first sign of old age? Loss of memory!
‘It is too hot to wear clothes today’ said Jack as he stepped out of the shower. ‘Honey , what do you think the neighbours would think if I mowed the lawn like this?’ ‘ That I married you for your money!’
Women are one of the Almighty’s enigmas, created to prove to men that He knows more than they do!
I told my wife that a husband is like fine wine, he gets better with age. The next day she locked me in the cellar.
Iron Man is a superhero.
Iron woman is a command.
A 2007 study found that the average Australian walks about 2000kms per year. Another study found the average Australia drinks about 100litres of beer per year. That means that the average Australian gets about 20 kms per litre. Bloody good value don’t you think.
The popularity of nude beaches debunks the statement that’ all men are created equal’..
