PPV Vaccination Guide

Step 1- PrepStep 1- Prep

Prepare your area and all equipment .

Step 2- Draw up vaccineStep 2- Draw up vaccine

To draw the vaccine into the syringe you need a green long 1’1/2’’ inch needle. Remove vaccine labels for your record keeping at this stage from vaccine vial.

Draw up the vaccine solution as in picture.

Remove the Green long needle ,And dispose of it.

Step 6-choose orange needle Step 6-choose orange needle

Choose the correct length orange (of blue) needle for the type of injection. Sub- cut should be a smaller usually 5.8’’.IM would be a 1’ length. Replace the green needle with the orange needle as in picture.

Step 8- Remove sheathStep 8- Remove sheath

Once you are ready to inject patient , remove sheath , having undertaken all paperwork and consents as required.

Step 9- Check injectionStep 9- Check injection

Make a physical check before injection, for air bubble and any other contamination.If all ok progress to injection of patient.

Step 3- Sub – cut Injection Step 3- Sub – cut Injection

If patient has a bleeding disorder or is on warfarin- Use the Sub- cutaneous method. This example is a Sub- Cut 45% degrees and scrunch the skin, inject where you are comfortable at the back of arm or in the line of the deltoid, a little to the centre of the arm. Follow your training guidance

Follow your training for injection technique.

Step 3- Dispose Step 3- Dispose

Dispose of whole of the injection including the syringe in a yellow bin.Complete your record keeping.
