Southern Tour 2011

A PrayerDear God, we thank you for our children

and for the opportunities that they have had so far in their lives.

Our prayer this evening is that each child has a wonderful, uplifting Canberra experience, and we pray that you will be with this group as they take another step on their exciting life journey.

Purpose of the Tour

• This is a culmination of the Government studies and Sport Science Units.

• Students will be doing a role play in Parliament House debating a bill.

• Students will visit the Electoral Education Centre (Old Parliament House). Here they will extend their studies in democracy.

Science and History

• Questacon - for those who have an inquiring mind.

• National Museum of Australia

• National Capital Exhibition to learn more about Canberra

• War Memorial - Lest we forget

• AIS - A great hit

• Royal Australian Mint

And

• Skiing • Mass at St Christopher’s Cathedral• The National Museum• The National Archives• Embassy Tour• Mt Ainslie Lookout

Itinerary is on the Year 7 Website.

Departure• Students need to be at school at 5:15 am

sharp on Sunday 28 August 2011 to leave at 5:30 am sharp.( you need to pay $10 for this trip)

• Students need to wear Full School Tracksuit with commemorative Year Seven shirt.

• Bring a warm jacket for when we arrive in Canberra.

• Morning tea on Sunday needs to be provided by parents in carry on bag.

What size bags to bring• Please limit your luggage to a “carry –

on” size bag. This will be stored in the luggage compartment. DO NOT OVERPACK – The children will dress in layers – and all places visited are warm

• Hand luggage should include basic items (camera, lip salve, sunscreen etc) and a warm coat for your arrival

Packing

• Please supervise - refer to the equipment list. Children need to be appropriately dressed… dressing in layers is best (eg singlet, t-shirt, shirt, coat).

• Recycling of outer clothes is encouraged - resist the temptation to over pack. One warm coat for the week will be enough.

• No lollies, chocolates or gum is allowed. We provide all sweets and food.

Packing List• 1 pair pj’s

• 1 beanie

• 1 pair ski gloves

• 1 pair sunglasses or ski glasses

• Sunscreen - bring your own supply

• 1 pair of jeans

• 3-4 shirts

• 1 thin jumper

• Socks for 4 days

• Spare pair shoes (optional)

• Toiletries-no straightening irons, hair dryers, make-up

• Wallet

• no mobiles, towels or pillows

Don’t Forget

• Ski gloves

• Sunglasses

• Tracksuits and clean joggers. Please check - NOW.

• Water Bottle

• Spending Money ($30 Maximum)

• Lip balm

Important Points• NO mobile phones or phone cards.• Medical Forms to Year 7 teachers.• Medication is to remain in original package to be

given to Maureen Magee in the office. • Pocket money ($30) to the office no later than Friday

5 August 2011 (no credit - cheque or cash only)• Money for specific items at the AIS needs to be

given to the office in an envelope labelled with the item and cost for what is to be purchased

• ONLY ipods/mp3 players to be taken. No Nintendo DS or other game consoles.

Medication

• The only medication/tablets/vitamins etc that children can self administer are asthma reliever puffers (Eg Ventolin, Asmol).

• Preventative medication (Eg. Simbacort, Ceratide) must have a signed medication form.

• Everything else must be given to the staff to administer. Permission must be sought from your doctor – this includes Paracetamol.

• Food allergies (not preferences) - please specify so we can arrange alternate meals.

Arriving Home

• Thursday 1 September 2011 at 8:30 pm at Coolangatta Airport.

• Please arrange to have children collected from the Airport.
