BELONGING
We welcome new disciples to our
parish communities. If you live
within our parish boundaries, which
is our mission field, then you are
already a member. It is still
important that you register at the
Parish Oce or during registration
weekends so we can communicate
with you throughout the year. We
are here to help you meet Jesus
Christ, grow in holiness, and fully
participate in a life of prayer.
Please call or stop at either parish
oce, or speak with Fr. Schuster.
We are disciples together!

SUNDAY MASS DISPENSATION IS OVER
Now, since the dispensation from the obligation
to worship at Mass on Sunday is no longer strictly
necessary, the faithful will once again be morally
obligated to come to Mass on Sundays throughout
the Diocese. (Canon 898) Thus, the obligation will
resume on the weekend of September 19th and
20th, 2020 – the 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
As has always been the case, if individual Catholics
struggle with serious health concerns or are
physically or morally prevented from worshipping
at Mass for a grave reason, this obligation does not
apply. Additionally, if individuals are frail due to
illness or age or, in their well-formed consciences
believe that going into public places - including
Sunday worship at Mass - would place their health
or the health of their loved ones in serious
jeopardy, they too are not bound by this obligation.
Furthermore, if the occupancy limits have already
been reached in a given Mass which preclude safe
social distancing, the obligation does not apply.
However, the faithful who are unable to attend
Mass are nevertheless urged to make holy the
Lord’s Day and to pray, read the Scriptures, and
take part in acts of charity.
Safe Capacity at St. Mary = 170
Safe Capacity at Holy Trinity = 110
Weekend Goal for Masses = 700 Parishioners
LIVESTREAM CHANGES
Due to the Bishop’s announcement and data
limits, livestreaming will be reduced.
For people who legitimately meet the criteria for not
attending a Sat/Sun Mass, Bishop Ricken will have a
televised Mass at 10:00am on Sundays. Our parishes will only
offer one livestreamed Mass at 9:00am from Casco, and it will
not be archived after it is complete. If you require more
space than we can offer, consider attending the 8:30am or
11:00am Mass at the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help,
Champion, in the spacious Mother of Mercy Hall.
We have awaited this day when God could once again be
glorified at our parish altars! Please do not take either the
obligation to attend Mass, or the need to do this safely, in a
light manner. Please do not hesitate to return to Confession
and rekindle your love for Jesus through the power of
forgiveness. Weekday Masses will be livestreamed when
data limits allows.

St. Mary School:
The Spring Fling event occurred this past week, and we are so grateful
for all the time, talent, and passion that went into this event. We
especially want to thank the planning committee: Julie & Jon Zirbel,
Ann & Jeff Mathu, Jenni Cory, Ashley Salentine, Alexia &Jeremy
Bostwick, and Stacey Bevins. They put in so much effort into making
this a wonderful event, even with the very unique year and the weather.
We had many wonderful donations, and we were able to pull off a
successful event! It appears Home & School made at least $17,000 in
profit. We are so thankful for the community of parents and parish
members that support our school.
Holy Trinity:
The School Board met last week, and our best takeaway was the
agreement that our school will implement a new Positive Behavior
Intervention and Supports Program! We will begin this program next
week, and are excited to start recognizing our students for the
wonderful things they are doing.
The Home to School association made some great plans to keep kids
excited, even in the midst of the pandemic. They are working to plan a
fun Halloween trick or treating event that will occur at the end of the
school day. More information will be coming at the start of October.

Excerpts are taken from: “Forming Consciences
for Faithful Citizenship A Call to Political
Responsibility from the Catholic Bishops of the
United States with New Introductory Letter.”
Making Moral Decisions
34. Catholics often face di:cult choices about how to vote. This is
why it is so important to vote according to a well-formed
conscience that perceives the proper relationship among moral
goods. A Catholic cannot vote for a candidate who favors a
policy promoting an intrinsically evil act, such as abortion,
euthanasia, assisted suicide, deliberately subjecting
workers or the poor to subhuman living conditions, redefining
marriage in ways that violate its essential meaning, or racist
behavior, if the voter’s intent is to support that position. In
such cases, a Catholic would be guilty of formal cooperation in
grave evil. At the same time, a voter should not use a
candidate’s opposition to an intrinsic evil to justify indifference
or inattentiveness to other important moral issues involving
human life and dignity.
35. There may be times when a Catholic who rejects a candidate’s
unacceptable position even on policies promoting an
intrinsically evil act may reasonably decide to vote for that
candidate for other morally grave reasons. Voting in this way
would be permissible only for truly grave moral reasons, not to
advance narrow interests or partisan preferences or to ignore a
fundamental moral evil.
36. When all candidates hold a position that promotes an
intrinsically evil act, the conscientious voter faces a dilemma.
The voter may decide to take the extraordinary step of not
voting for any candidate or, after careful deliberation, may
decide to vote for the candidate deemed less likely to advance
such a morally flawed position and more likely to pursue other
authentic human goods.
37. In making these decisions, it is essential for Catholics to be
guided by a well-formed conscience that recognizes that all
issues do not carry the same moral weight and that the moral
obligation to oppose policies promoting intrinsically evil acts
has a special claim on our consciences and our actions. These
decisions should take into account a candidate’s
commitments, character, integrity, and ability to influence a
given issue. In the end, this is a decision to be made by each
Catholic guided by a conscience formed by Catholic moral
teaching.
38. It is important to be clear that the political choices faced by
citizens not only have an impact on general peace and
prosperity but also may affect the individual’s salvation.
Similarly, the kinds of laws and policies supported by public
o:cials affect their spiritual well-being.
CITIZENSHIP CORNER
Gathering Boldly and Safely
You and I both know people from our
very own communities who have
recently contracted COVID-19. It is
good that most people are not getting
very sick when they contract the
virus. That does not mean that
everyone should relax their safety
practices. It does mean that we
should not live with mortal fear every
day! This virus is preventable (like
the flu) and there are still vulnerable
people we are trying to protect.
It may seem counter-intuitive to
some people that Bishop Ricken has
reinstated the requirement to attend
Sunday Mass when there is a rise in
COVID-19 cases in our own area. Be
assured that we are monitoring the
situation and we will makes revisions
to our policies as needed. So far,
there has not been any cases traced
to gatherings at our churches, even
when people who attended a Mass
contracted the virus on the very same
day. What we are doing in the
church is working. Thank you!
The good practices that have kept
people safe thus far will remain in
place as we use every square inch of
our churches to safely bring people
back to Mass. These includes masks,
frequent sanitization, safe pew
distancing, and insisting that anyone
with a cough or cold-like symptoms
stays home. You will not incur mortal
sin if you, in good conscience, excuse
yourself from Mass because of
possible illness. If you have a
question about this, call me on the
phone and I can formally dispense
you from your obligation.
As we bring people back for Mass, our
ushers and all the faithful will need to
be particularly welcoming, flexible
and accommodating. It is time for us
to boldly gather and lead with faith.
