The school has a long history of standing

water at the east end of the classroom

wing. That particular area of the school

is 2-feet below grade resulting in an

increased concern for storm drainage and

flooding. During the late 1990’s the

Director of Maintenance & Operations

implemented a French drain to alleviate

the ponding. Over the years the French

drain clogged and there was a concern for

soil saturation and overflow. Due to the

recent flooding during a 3”- 4” rain event,

the Office of Supporting Services took a

new long term solution by adding a

concrete swale with positive drainage

path away from the building reducing

concerns for both ponding and flooding

but also, a reduction in subterranean

water against the classroom space below

the ground level.

CCPS has a contractor

completing some other

drainage work on site

and they quickly

mobilized to install a new

concrete swale with

positive drainage. This

solution moves water

away from the doors and

foundations in this area.
