It was built in 1783 near the Cathedral. Sala Terrana is open to public on ground floor.

Bishop Palace

Garden of Ruins

You can find a wealth of Roman relics: mosaics of plants, geometrical designs on the floor of St. Quirinus Basilica from the 4th century, Roman road markers, medieval castle wall…

Iseum

It is part of a grand 2nd-century complex of the two temples dedicated to the Egyptian goddess Isis by Roman legionnaries.

Smidt Museum

You can see the private collection of Lajos Smidt: antique weapons, furniture, fans, pipes, clocks, Roman coins…

Savaria Museum

You can see Roman altars, stone torsos, blue-glass vials from Savaria….

Synagogue

It is a twin-towered Moorish building. A plaque marks the spot from where 4228 of our Jewish brothers and sisters were deported to Auschwitz on 4 July 1944.

Cathedral

It was designed by Melchior Hefele for Bishop Szily in 1791. In World War II it was ruined by bombs but it was rebuilt.

Szombathely Gallery

It is a modern Art Gallery.

Vas Museum Village

It is an open-air museum with some 18th and 19th century farmhouses moved from more than two dozen villages in the Őrség region.

Historical park

Each year at the end of August we can take part in the famous Savaria Carnival. The town revive the ancient Roman times.

We love playing football. We have a football club called Haladás. Many people visit their matches.

We also like playing basketball. Our basketball club is Falco.

Király Gábor (1976) – a goalkeeper now he plays for 1860 München

Fazekas Róbert (1975) – he is a discuss thrower. He was 8th in the world championship in Beijing.

An actor and an actress

Hujber Ferenc (1974) – he is an actor, played in several famous Hungarian films

Für Anikó (1964) – she is an actress, she is famous for her plays in theatres

he is a singer with a hoarse voice

Prieger Zsolt – he is a member of Anima Sound System

Teenagers’ favourites

No thanks – it is a pop and rock group, they play in similar style like Tokio Hotel from Germany. They have started their career from Szombathely.

Ocho Macho

This group is also from Szombathely and Kőszeg. They are very popular. They play a bit of reggae, a bit of punk, a bit of latin music and a bit of rock and roll.
