A Distributed Architecture for Real-Time High Resolution Video

Streaming

Outline

Introduction

Distributed System Architecture (Three units)

Real-Time Video Streaming Case

33

Introduction

Specific device, stream formats, resolution

44

Distributed System Architecture

One stream, multiple purposes

These three units are designed as loose-coupling architecture

Three-tier architecture (1/3)

Video input(Device/Interface)

Format(Tool/Stream Format)

HDV(1394) HD/MPEG-2TS

DV(1394) DVTS/RAW DV

WEB-CAM(USB) VLC/MPEG-4

CABLE(CAPTURE CARD)

VLC/MPEG-4

*HD, DVTS, and VLC are open source software

Distributed stream compression

Two compression concepts have been implemented

Client-Server basedReduces network bandwidthTransfers video stream to multi-formats(mp4,wmv,flv,mjpeg)

Server-side basedDynamically assign the video stream to suitable servers depending on loading.Compresses the video stream to a variety of bit-rates for different network bandwidth
