back in the swing of their teaching and learning programs. Students are really enjoying spending time with
their friends and teachers whilst engaging in quality face to face learning.
Semester 1 Reports
Semester 1 reports wil be sent home with your child on Monday, 29 June. If you require a meeting with
your child’s teacher, please make an appointment through the school office. All parent/teacher meetings

In line with advice from the NSW Department of Education, our school reports for Semester 1 2020 have
been adjusted to cater for students learning from school and at home. Please be aware that all students
may not have covered the same syllabus outcomes or content during this period. This report will not grade
student achievement using the A-E scale for all outcomes.

NCCD
The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) is an annual
process participated in by all Australian schools across the country. The aim of this process is to provide
the Australian Government with consistent information about the number of students with disability in
Australian schools and the type of adjustments they require in order to access and participate in
education on the same basis as other students. Since 2018, the NCCD has been used by the Australian
Government to inform funding for schools, known as the ‘student with disability loading’. In some cases,
an individual learning plan (ILP) or personal learning plan (PLP) may be developed to document specific
educational goals and to review your child’s progress over time. Your child may be included in the NCCD
if they require ongoing adjustments at school due to a disability as defined by the Disability
Discrimination Act 1992. Please access the link below for further information.

YEAR 4 PARENTS - YEAR 5 OPPORTUNITY CLASS PLACEMENT FOR 2021
Changes to the opportunity class placement process for 2020 Year 4 students
The 2021 Year 5 opportunity class placement process was put on hold in April 2020 due to the COVID-
19 situation.
We now have a revised and simplified timeline for the OC placement process to ensure that students
and families can have certainty about their placement as soon as possible.
The changes include:
• A new date for online applications. Parents must apply between 9 June 2020 and 26 June 2020.
Late applications cannot be accepted.
• A new test date - Wednesday 16 September 2020.
To ensure fair and consistent assessment of students across New South Wales, students will be offered
places based only on their test results this year – there will be no school assessment scores.
There will also be no opportunity for appeals given the tight timeframes.
For further detailed information I encourage you to visit (https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-
schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5
KINDERGARTEN 2021 – Online Enrolment now available (in area families only)
We are now accepting applications for enrolment in Kindergarten for 2021. Any in-area parents/carers are
now able to submit an online application to Enrol in a NSW Government School. Please go to the Burnside
Public School website and click on the Enrolment Tab, then click on Apply for enrolment online. All
original documents must still be sighted by the office staff.
If you are not eligible to use the online form or prefer not to, you can download an Application to enrol in a
NSW Government School, which can also be downloaded from our school website or you can collect a
copy at the school office.
If you are applying but reside outside the boundaries, both a hard copy of the Application to Enrol in a
NSW Government School and a Non-Local Enrolment Application must be submitted. Then the student
will be placed on a waiting list. Both these forms can be collected from the school office.

Uniform Orders
The uniform shop will only be taking orders by email to burnsidep.school@det.nsw.edu.au as the office
staff are completing the orders. After emailing your order, please contact the office by phone to complete
payment. Once payment has been made we will send the clothes home with your child on Friday.
Year 1 Science
Students in 1S were conducting their Buoyancy experiment for the
Science Push and Pull unit this week. The task was to build a foil
boat and see how many counters could be put in it before it
sinks. They worked collaboratively to investigate the outcome of
buoyancy theories through discussion and conducting
experiments.
