NOVEMBER 2019
2019 Board of Directors
Here we are with another boating season in the books. This year has been one to remember as water levels have exceeded our expectations and created awareness for our Club and members. We do not know what is to come as Mother Nature prepares us some elements to tackle as we approach our new agendas for the fall and winter months. The D.A.R.N project as we stand is going to be slow and steady in the beginning as Merl is prepping for the power to be installed. When the ice is stable, we will begin our next and last phase of finger re-facing. Then on to some head piers if time and ice persists. Our shoreline project has been posted and waiting for Father Time to succeed our posting. Depending how schedules fall from there for it to take place. Elections are coming up and John Kennedy has taken reign on the Nomination Committee. Thank you! If you would like to join the Board for the upcoming terms, please contact John for information. Our fall entertainment festivities are beginning as well. Be sure to check the calendar for days and times . Feel free to stop on down for a cold or hot one, and support the greatness of our Club. And to all that have or are currently serving our Country. THANK YOU!

With the year winding down, a lot is still happening at the Club. November 2nd is the Commodore’s Ball. Kris and Dawn have it all planned. Dinner, music, and of course, fun! On the 9th of November, is our 15th annual Veterans Day Commemoration. The program starts at 11am. This is an event you don't want to miss! Help is always needed. A great way to get hours, and honor our heroes at the same time. On December 7th is our Children's Christmas Party, hosted by Jane Rott. Watch for details in the usual places. Tuesday pool has started, stop down and join us! We will be setting dates for next years events shortly, and as always, looking for chairpersons and helpers. Don't be shy, volunteer! Till next month! Gary
The October Smoker went off without a hiccup.
Thanks to members stepping up and volunteering to
serve and clean. The crews were spearheaded by
Mike Pierquet and John Kennedy. We served 56
Braised Pork Shanks and by all accounts, it was
delicious. Next up for November 20th is Beef
Wellington. Dave Rott will be our chef. Dave has
done this in the past for us and we are looking
forward to the 20th. Sign-up sheet is in the back as
usual. How about them Packers!!!!! Remember every
game can be seen on the big screen down at the
Club. Bring a dish to pass along with drink specials
and you have yourself a great afternoon of fun with
friends. Burger and Taco nights are continuing along
with Friday Fish Fry’s. Hopefully we will be able to get
enough perch to keep it going. Never fear though,
Chef Todd has more than just perch for Friday nights.
Todd is now manning the kitchen on Saturday
afternoons for lunch. Check it out. Thanks, and until
next time, GO PACK GO! Jay

Hello Fellow G.B.Y.C.'ers! Well it was an interesting and challenging year at G.B.Y.C. this year, but we made it! Thank you all for pitching in when help was needed and thank you for your patience and understanding during the Harbor projects. The "Dredging Project" with J.F. Brennan and the "Shore Stabilization Project" were greatly needed and will allow us all to enjoy our very scenic G.B.Y.C. Harbor for many years to come. Mother Nature threw us our share of curve balls and challenged us greatly with high water and high winds but we weathered the storm! Thank you again to everyone for getting your Winter Storage Payments in on a timely matter and assisting our Lift-Crews so that our Winter Storage went as smoothly as possible. I want to also send a huge "Thank You" to Dan Emmel and Larry LaBine for stepping up and taking care of the task as
Fleet Captain
Steve Heney
"Yard Foreman" when asked. I also want to thank all the G.B.Y.C. Lift-Crews for another outstanding job, well done! Well, "DOCK DAY" I thought went great and we had magnificent weather as I prayed for and I viewed the day as a huge success. Thank you to all who turned out, awesome job! Yes, we may have to do some tweaking here and there as the "Shore Stabilization Project" and "Electrical Pedestal" upgrades occur, but I'm sure just like during the dredge project, we will accomplish our task at hand. The G.B.Y.C. has also purchased a second Harbor Boat, thank you to Kevin Roger's for the heads up on its availability and it is a sound and great investment for our club. If anyone has any questions on the purchase, please contact me. Well, that is all I have for now, please stay safe, take care, and I will see you at the club! I am out!!! Steve
It was a cold blustery day on Friday, October 12th when a few dignitaries and lighthouse keepers gathered to turn some gravel with gold shovels to signify that all permits are in place and it is time to get on with the project. That was over a year ago. At the time, we expected to be done by the start of boating in 2019. Well, that didn’t happen. Lots of “reasons” why. Check out the previous articles for some of them. Is the project completed? Perhaps. There is a storage unit with a
bunch of stuff that once occupied the lights. Will need to sort through it and decide what is to be kept and what will be tossed. The roof on the Welcome Center is quirky and waiting on the installation company (Overhead Solutions) to un-quirky it. There is a cupola and weather vane in the South Light waiting for the roof fix. There is a lot of “spit and polish” that needs to be done. Volunteers welcome. If you haven’t been out to the Lights yet, what are you waiting for?
Sunshine and Sadness
We sadly note the passing of GBYC member Dianne Fostner-Sell. Sympathy to her husband Ray and the entire family during this difficult time.
