In a seminary missions class, Herbert Jackson told how, as a new missionary, he was assigned a car that would not start without a push. After pondering his problem, he devised a plan. He went to the school near his home, got permission to take some children out of class, and had them push his car off. As he made his rounds, he would either park on a hill or leave the engine running. He used this ingenious procedure for two years.
Ill health forced the Jackson family to leave, and a new missionary came to that station. When Jackson proudly began to explain his arrangement for getting the car started, the new man began looking under the hood. Before the explanation was complete, the new missionary interrupted, “Why, Dr. Jackson, I believe the only trouble is this loose cable.” He gave the cable a twist, stepped into the car, pushed the switch, and to Jackson’s astonishment, the engine roared to life.
For two years needless trouble had become routine. The power was there all the time. Only a loose connection kept Jackson from putting that power to work.
We needlessly forget that we are the children of God. John 1:12 and 1 John 3:1 explicitly remind us who we are. We are God's children. There is power in remembering this. When we forget who we are, we have a loose connection in our life. When that cable is tightened, then we have power. Live this week reminding yourself who you are.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
*The Gloria Patri

The Call to Prayer
Take this moment to prepare to speak to the One who is more focused upon our hearts than upon our words. One who is more committed to us and our soul’s well being than we are to our body’s comforts and pleasures. One who has shown us by the passion of our Lord Jesus Christ the seriousness with which He makes our appointment. The only One who loves us just because His love is greater than our sin. Free yourself in these moments from your fear-filled secrets by prayerfully confessing them in the presence of our Heavenly Father.

Special Worship Opportunity Sunday, September 9
The Worship Committee is excited to announce a special program to be held Sunday, September 9, during the Sunday School hour. All adult Sunday School classes will meet together in the Fellowship Hall. We will gather at 9:15 a.m. for a light breakfast and the program will begin promptly at 9:45. Michael Belk will present his spell-binding program called JOURNEYS WITH THE MESSIAH. He will present a moving video that he professionally produced in Italy. Each picture is based on a particular scripture. We will explore the modern-day relevance of the centuries-old stories told by Jesus. This is an excellent time to invite a guest to St. Paul! Come one; come all to view this magnificent program. This is a wonderful opportunity for ALL St. Paul members - an opportunity you do not want to miss!!
