Generous School Donation
A huge thank you to the Wollondilly parents who have
made a very generous donation to the school. We
will use the money to help support our literacy
programs across the school.
Your generosity is greatly appreciated by all.
Library News
We have an exciting year of reading and improving
our library skills planned for this year. To encourage
students to share what they have been reading we
have been giving out bookmarks to every primary
student on which they can fill in a short book review.
Each returned bookmark puts them in the competition
to win a free book at the end of term. One book will be
awarded to each class. We have already received
many entries so keep them coming. Over the coming
weeks we will introduce a similar system with the K-2
classes so they can participate as well if they wish.
To also encourage student's reading efforts we will be
giving away a book to each student when they have
completed 100 nights of home reading, so make sure
you fill in your reading logs each night. To help fund
these initiatives we had books available for families to
purchase and donate to the library at our Meet and
Greet evening. Thank you to those families that
purchased a book. They will be available for
borrowing shortly. As this was well received keep an
eye out for us at future school events where we will
have books available again for $5 and we have
decided to make them available for students to
purchase and own themselves if they wish, or donate
to the library. Purchases from our Book Club and
Book Fairs also contribute to our fundraising efforts.
Swimming Carnival
The Wollondilly Swimming Carnival will be on this
Thursday 19 February starting at 10am at the
Aquatic Centre. Students must come to school first
to be marked off the roll.
We will then walk in class groups to the pool.
Students must have their $2.10 entry fee or their
season pass to get into the pool.
While we have 25m and 50/100m races and ribbons
are awarded in all categories, only the 50m and
100m placed students will go on to the District
Carnival. Parents and carers are welcome to attend.
Students will need all their food and drinks supplied,
as the pool and school canteens will not be
available. Do not forget: swimmers, towel,
goggles, sunscreen, hat, shirt, dry underwear.

3-4T Growing Together in 2015
Well, it has been all go, go, go for 3/4T. After what
amounts to only 11 days together as a whole class,
we have already started growing seeds for our
plant unit in Science and looking closely at our local
community for our HSIE unit, even making a game
about all of the services provided in our town.
On top of all that, we have started Maths Plus, our
reading groups and narrative writing. A great start
to the year. I predict lots of fun ahead.

School Uniform
A reminder that baseball caps are no longer part of our
school uniform. Students wear a bucket or broad
rimmed hat to cover their ears , neck and nose. To
comply with Cancer Council recommendations, all
students should apply sunscreen before coming to
school and again during the day.
Roll-on sunscreen is ideal to carry in school bags for
students to apply as they leave the rooms at breaks and
for sport! Sunscreen is also available at school.
Last week KDH received a bag of popcorn for having
every student in their class with the correct hat.
3-4R received a bag of popcorn for having all but 1
student, wearing the correct hat. The best class in
Years 3 - 6!! Well done!
Sport shoes are only to be worn on sports day. School
uniform is black shoes.
Please encourage your child to wear full school uniform
and take pride in their school There are lots of items in
the clothing pool if you need spare shirts, polar fleeces
etc. School hats are for sale in the school canteen for
$10.
Head Lice
There have been a number of cases of head lice
reported. We would appreciate your support in this
matter with further checks at home over the next few
weeks.
Changes to the Student Attendance in Government Schools Procedures
From January 2015, changes have been made to the eligibility for exemptions, and the time
frame for explanation of absences.
CHANGES TO EXEMPTIONS
An exemption from attendance at school can no longer be granted for vacations taken
outside of school holiday periods.
Holidays and travel outside of school vacation periods will now be included as absences.
If the Principal accepts the parent’s application for extended leave, a certificate of extended
leave will be issued and the absence recorded as Leave.
If the Principal does not approve the application, any resulting absence will be recorded as
unjustified.
Application for exemptions due to illness are still accepted IF a medical certificate for the
period of absence is provided.
CHANGES TO TIME FRAME FOR EXPLANATION OF ABSENCE
An explanation for any absence must be provided to the school within 7 days from the first
day of any period of absence.
What should I do if my child has to stay away from school?
It is important to let the school know when your child will be away and why your child is
absent. Parent have several options of notifying the school of their child’s absence:
by ringing the school on the morning of each day’s absence
by emailing through an explanation of the absence
by sending in a Reason for Absence form on the first day the student returns to school
after an absence.
Any note of explanation forwarded to school should contain:
Your child’s name and class
The day(s) and date(s) that your child was absent from school
The reason the child was absent
The signature of the child’s parent or caregiver
If your child is seeing a Doctor due to illness, please request a Medical Certificate covering
the date(s) of the absences(s). Absences due to illness are eligible for an Exemption from
School if a Doctor’s Certificate is provided for the entire period of illness.
