Tips For Winter Hot Tub Energy Saving

Owning a hot tub is a great luxury to have as it can create much entertainment for the whole

family.

As you may know it can be quite expensive to own a hot tub as you've got many things to pay

for such as hot tub maintenance costs and running costs.

If you're looking for ways to keep the running costs down this winter then follow this presentation on ways to save energy

on your hot tub!

COVER

First things first is the hot tub cover. This is the most important thing you need in order to keep

the heat in and to stop unwanted debris entering the tub when it's not in use. If it's

starting to look old and tatty then it's definitely worth investing in a good, thick hot tub cover.

A good cover will also reduce the need for regular hot tub maintenance.

CHANGE THE PROGRAMME

Change the program on your hot tub so your filter/heat cycles only run at

night (this will only make it cheaper if you've got a 'night-rate' metre)

CHANGE THE TEMPERATURE

Check your owner's manual to see if your hot tub controls have a

"economy" or "standby" mode, leaving your tub 10-15 degrees cooler than your set temp when not in use can

really help to save on heating costs.

QUALITY THERMAL BLANKET

Invest in a good quality thermal blanket or solar cover to help keep

evaporation down under your hot tub cover.

INSULATION

If you own a portable hot tub then you'll definitely benefit from a layer of foam board insulation under your hot tub.

Unfortunately portable hot tubs tend not to be very well insulated on the floor and a lot of heat can escape through

the bottom.

BUILD A FENCE

Preventing any freezing cold winds from hitting your hot tub can save big amounts of energy. This can simply be done with a privacy panel or a fence.

KEEP DRY

Keep your hot tub away from dripping edges, as water and ice start to fall on

the cover/cabinet it will drop the temperature of the water quicker.

SOUTH FACING

This tip is more for people who haven't yet installed their hot tub but

positioning your tub on a South-facing exposure, or in a sun-exposed corner

will help to keep up the water temperature.

PUT THE COVER ON

Lastly remember to put the cover back over your hot tub as soon as it's no longer in use. The heat will escape

very quickly when the cover is off so you want to make sure you're doing everything to help keep in the heat.
