HAPPY BIRTHDAY FOR MONDAY, JUNE 23, 2014:

This year you have the opportunity to blaze anew trail. You will show more appreciation and car-ing, as you will experience a high level of sensitiv-ity toward others. Greater financial securitybecomes possible with a promotion and/or payraise. Use your additional income carefully. If youare single, you will meet someone in your dailytravels who could become very important to you. This relationship could have a unique quality. If youare attached, the two of you spend a lot of timeshooting the breeze together. You are likely tomake a major purchase that will enhance the qual-ity of your lives. TAURUS always seems stable.

CANCER (JUNE 21-JULY 22)HHHHYou’ll be more grounded than usual,

especially as you express your opinions in a meet-ing. Recognize that everyone hits a brick wall occa-sionally, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t test adifferent approach or a new idea. Tonight: Surroundyourself with friends.

LEO (JULY 23-AUG. 22)HHH Take a stand, and know that you might

need to accept far more responsibility. How you

VIRGO (AUG. 23-SEPT. 22)HHHHYou have the ability to see the big pic-

gives you feedback. What this person suggestsmight seem lackluster or superficial. Be polite, butseek out other answers if need be. Pace yourself, especially if you are trying to get a lot done.Tonight: Seek out an expert.

DEAR ABBY: I fell in love with a boy whenI was 12, deeply in love. We met at ourcounty fair. We grew up together and haveremained friends for 30 years. He marriedand had children, as did I. I am nowdivorced, but he’s still married.

Recently our friendship hasgrown into something more. Hewants our relationship to continue, but he’s afraid to leave his wife be-cause of the kids. They have beentogether for 20 years.

What do I do? He’s the love ofmy life. Any time I have with him isbetter than none. It’s not that Idon’t know I deserve better, but heis unhappy, and I am miserablewithout him. What do I do? — PRIS-ONER OF PASSION IN VIRGINIA

DEAR PRISONER: What you dodepends upon your strength of characterand what you want out of life. If you want tospend the foreseeable future as this man’s“side dish,” then continue as you have been,a “prisoner of passion” with not much com-mon sense. If you would like to have a stablelife and find a man who will make you No. 1in his life, then you will have to call a halt tothis affair and go through a period of with-drawal — the same as people have to dowith any addiction. It may not be pleasant, but I recommend it.

——— DEAR ABBY: I’m turning 75 soon, and en-

joying retirement, good health and a com-fortable lifestyle, which is why I havearranged a “Celebration of My Life — So Far.”I’m excited about it and eagerly anticipatingmore than 60 guests for cocktails and a sit-down dinner at a nearby hotel.

It’s not uncommon these days for a cele-bration of life to be held after someone dies. However, I prefer to have mine BEFORE Ileave this Earth so I can celebrate along with

my loved ones. I want to be there, especiallysince I’m the one who’s paying for it!

What do you think of my idea? Would youenjoy partaking in such a special event? —

THINKING AHEAD IN NEW JERSEY DEAR THINKING AHEAD: I think

it’s a terrific idea. And yes, I wouldenjoy celebrating such a specialevent, if I were invited. When is thisparty? I’ll be standing by my mail-box!

———DEAR ABBY: Why is it socially

acceptable to refer to a grownwoman as a “girl,” and yet it wouldnever be appropriate to call a mana “boy”? — BARBARA INHUNTSVILLE, ALA.

DEAR BARBARA: I’m not surewhether all women would accept

being called a “girl.” In fact, some would findit condescending and offensive. If you call aman a “boy,” he could regard it as an assaulton his masculinity.

And yet, I have heard those terms used inthe third person, as in, “What’s my husbanddoing on Saturday? He’ll be out playing golfwith the boys, while I’ll be going to lunchwith the girls.” And I have never heard that itwas offensive to either sex.
