Step #1

Define Your Vision

“Where there is no vision, the people perish.”-Proverbs 29:18

Vision

• Howard Hill– Called the greatest archer

of all time.– Won 146 consecutive

matches, never beaten.– Could hit a bulls-eye, split

his own arrow, then split that arrow.

Vision Exercise

People who aren’t willing to take the first step, will never take the second step.

Step #2

Find your “Definite Purpose”

Definite Purpose

• Looking at your vision statement, pick out your 5 most important points.– Which points do you feel most passionate about?– Which would you regret the most if you never

accomplished?

Step #5

Write Your Goals Daily

Let’s take a trip…

Daily Action Plan Exercise

Step #6

Prioritize

“Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.” - Mark Twain

• Write your goals and “To-Do” list for the day.• Find that one task you are dreading.• Do it first!• With that one out of the way, you will already

feel accomplished and gain momentum for the rest of the day.

• After all, if you had to eat a frog, you wouldn’t want to look at it all day long!

Eat the Frog

Step #7

Get to Work!

Daily Routine

• Write down your “definite purpose.”• Write down a daily action item for each.• Write down your list of tasks that need to get

done.• Locate your frog.• Review at night.

Review your goals every day!

• Level 1: Stop and read them each morning.

• Level 2: Read them out loud every morning.

• All-Star: Re-write them every morning.

Obstacles to Personal Success

Avoid the Distractions

Avoid the Distractions

• Learn to recognize your distractions.• Find ways to remove them or work around

them.• Put them to use.– Set them as a reward for completing your other

goals and tasks.– For example: I will not check Facebook until I

have….

Procrastination

Overcoming Procrastination

• When tackling big tasks, start small.– Rather than say, “I need to clean the whole

house”, say “I’m going to clean just this room”, or “I’m going to clean for only 15 minutes.”

– Once you get started, most people will just go ahead and finish.

– Fear of the time commitment is enough to make most people never start at all.

– This applies to long-term goals as well.

Breaking Old Habits

Breaking Old Habits

• Learn to recognize:– Behavioral Habits: Facebook, TV Shows, Video

Games– Mental Habits: Grudges, Envy, Anger, Self-Doubt

Self-Doubt

This is the #1 impediment to personal success. You can set all the goals in the world and have an incredible experience doing it only to turn around and paralyze yourself with self-criticism and doubt.

If you can dream it and are willing to work at it, you can achieve it!

“Success is never owned, it is rented; and the rent is due every day”

Daily Routine

“Many people stand at the harbor of life waiting for their ship to come in, knowing in the heart that it never really set sail in the first place.”

“Setting goals is not so much about what you accomplish, but who you become by working

towards them.”

7 Steps

• Define Your Vision• Find your “definite purpose.”• Ask yourself “Why?”• Set Effective Goals• Write your goals down daily• Prioritize • Get to work! Persist!

The Eighth Step

“You can have everything you want in life if you help enough other people get what

they want.”
