Coordinating and Support Action aimed at supporting transport research activities in the NMS

TransNEW started on 01 January 2010 and runs for 2 years to December 2011

The project has 48 deliverables consisting of:

Reports on each of the 26 countries4 regional reports4 mode evaluation reports6 newslettersOther reports on Management issues and

workshops, etc

TransNEW covers all transport modes, including Aeronautics.

TransNEW is assessing who is making a contribution to common transport research objectives such as:

- advancing competitiveness- anticipating and responding to the socio-economic and environmental challenges of the transport system - promoting transport research SMEs

TransNEW is clustering the research capacity results by five Activities. These are:

1. Greening – environmental impacts of transport and climate change2. Enhanced integration of transport modes3. Safety and Security4. Transport system efficiency and Mobility5. Competitiveness

Objectives of TransNEW:- Assess transport research capabilities- Foster cross border-integration- Create a database of transport research expertise based on the findings of the capability and capacity research - Promote SME’s active in transport research- Increase market uptake of funding

Methodology:

- Data collectionfrom key researchers, country specific organisations in Universities and industry and transport-related projects- Desk based research- Questionnaire- Data responses- Interactive workshopsSame process was used with SMEs

Clustering:

To cover large workload TransNEW is split into clusters of

- 26 Regions/States; and - modes of transport

Hungary, Poland, SlovakiaWEST BALKANS – Bosnia, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, SloveniaSOUTH BALKANS AND MEDITERRANEAN – Albania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Malta, Moldova, Romania, TurkeyASSOCIATED STATES – Iceland, Israel, Norway, Switzerland, Lichtenstein

Country reports:- Each country report follows the same format - Country reports focus on transport research state-of-the-art highlighting strengths and gaps in transport research- also includes SME’s

Regional reports:

- Country reports from the region are compared and contrasted the regional reports- These reports focus on Policies and Priorities; transport research potential and projects and recommendations from the research

Mode Evaluation:

- Country reports also incorporate mode specific research that becomes a dedicated mode evaluation report for each country and region

the ETNA project is a network of transport National Contact Points

TransNEW and ETNA have a Cooperation Agreement to collaborate in bringing together transport research experts in such forums as this

encourage researchers to register on the TransNEW database of transport researchers and organisations

assist in the networking process

disseminate information concerning the recent Calls for Proposals

assist with the formation of consortia

The TransNEW database will continue to be maintained and expanded for at least two years after the end of the project
